Aberdeen vs Ross County Prediction: Don’t expect Pittodrie thriller

Aberdeen will be hoping 2025 can bring about an improvement in their form when they welcome Ross County to Pittodrie Stadium on Thursday afternoon (15:00 KO).

Despite going eight games without a victory, Aberdeen are the 4/7 favourites to pick up the win on home turf, with the draw priced at 3/1 and the Staggies the 5/1 outsiders to claim the spoils.

Aberdeen remain without the attacking services of Pape Habib Gueye and Vicente Besuijen, while defender Jack Milne is also in the treatment room.

County are missing on-loan Everton defender Eli Campbell, who has been absent since suffering an injury in the early stages of the defeat to Hibernian in the middle of December.

Goalkeeper Ross Laidlaw is not due back until later this month because of a knee issue and forward Alex Samuel is out with a thigh problem that is set to keep him sidelined for another week or so.

It has been a dismal couple of months for Aberdeen, who are without a win in their last eight fixtures and who have tasted success just once from their last 10 assignments.

The Dons have gone from keeping pace with Celtic at the top of the table at the start of the season to now fighting to stay in third position, with Dundee United just three points behind them.

Jimmy Thelin's side suffered a 1-0 loss to the Terrors last time out, extending their losing run to three games and making it two consecutive matches in which they have failed to score.

Visitors County have found a bit of form, collecting four points from the last six on offer, but they were fortunate to grab a 2-2 draw against Hearts in their final game of 2024 after scoring twice in injury-time.

While the Staggies won their last away outing, a 3-0 success at Dundee, that is their only road triumph this season in the Scottish Premiership and they are hard to trust on their travels.

Given the concerns about both teams to get a result, the better play here looks to be backing under 2.5 goals, as neither side have looked stellar in front of goal.

Aberdeen have been blanked in three of their last five games, while County have failed to score in six of their nine away league matches.

Just one goal was scored when these two last met in August - a 1-0 victory for the Dons - so another low-scoring affair could be on the cards at Pittodrie.
