Three interesting games make up the Scottish Premiership schedule in midweek. Dundee host Motherwell at Dens Park while Rangers host Kilmarnock in Govan. Pick of the bunch comes from Pittodrie, where Premiership leaders Celtic visit nearest rivals Aberdeen in a clash you can follow live from 20:00 on Sky Sports Main Event.

The Dons and Bhoys were evenly matched at Celtic Park when sharing a four-goal draw in October. Celtic then smashed Aberdeen 6-0 in the League Cup semi-final at Hampden. Will Wednesday’s renewal bring another high-scoring game? Betfred’s Frank Monkhouse previews the match and offers us his Aberdeen vs Celtic Predictions...

Aberdeen enjoy home advantage in their 15th game of the season and third meeting with Celtic in Premiership and cup action. Aberdeen have impressed under manager Jimmy Thelin but arrive on the back of a mixed bag of results. The hosts played four games last month, losing 6-0 at the national stadium before responding to beat Dundee 4-1 at this venue.

The home side lost 2-1 in Paisley against St Mirren and shared six goals with lowly Hibs in the capital to finish November. Aberdeen are currently the main danger to leaders Celtic and could ramp up the pressure with a home win.

Celtic bus from Glasgow to the Granite City, sitting on top of the Premiership. Their stats for the season show a dozen wins against one draw, scoring 40 goals and conceding just four. The only slight blot on their copybook was a 2-2 home draw with Aberdeen, but they won their next five, claiming a maximum of 15 points.

The Hoops were last in action on Saturday when hammering Ross County 5-0 in another free-scoring show of strength. Summer signing Luke McGowan from Greenock scored one and set up three goals in that rout. A five-star performance was the perfect preparation for an important midweek trip to Pittodrie.

Aberdeen vs Celtic Odds

The pre-match stats ahead of Wednesday’s game suggest we’re in for a competitive and entertaining 90 minutes, but that’s not reflected in the betting odds available on the Betfred website and mobile app. Fancy Aberdeen to blow the title race wide open, gain revenge for that hammering at Hampden, and prove they are title challengers? You can back Aberdeen at odds of 6/1 (14% chance) now.

Celtic arrive in great form, impressing in the Premiership and Champions League. They were punch-perfect at the weekend when living up to expectations and destroying a poor Ross County. Fancy another win for the table-toppers? You can back Celtic to win at 2/5 (71% probability) with Betfred or try the draw at 4/1 (20% possibility).

Over 2.5 goals

Let’s now highlight the first of two picks at Pittodrie in midweek. We’re following the stats when backing the match to produce three or more goals. That approach would’ve landed you a profit in the two previous games involving these teams this season, including that 6-0 win for Celtic last time.

Going back further, backing over 2.5 goals was the right approach in each of the last three and seven of eight. Need more convincing? Celtic beat the Staggies 5-0 just four days ago and beat Hearts 4-1 in their most recent away game. Add Aberdeen’s 3-3 draw with Hibs and their 2-1 defeat to St Mirren, and we have a strong bet.

Both score and Celtic win

Victory for Celtic at Pittodrie would see them take a huge step towards retaining the title they won under Brendan Rodgers last season.

With a win, the visitors would go seven points clear of the Dons, which would be solid going into a busy schedule. We’re backing the Hoops to get the desired result and leave the chasing pack choking in their dust.

With an away win picked and goals expected, we’ll combine the two and back both teams to score in a Celtic win. That would’ve been a profitable approach when Celtic beat Aberdeen 3-1 here last season. Let’s hope for a repeat performance on Wednesday evening.
