Aberdeen vs Motherwell Prediction: Defences could crumble in the Granite City

It’s the first round of Scottish Premiership fixtures since the split and Aberdeen host Motherwell at Pittodrie on Saturday (KO, 15:00). A top-six position would have been the minimum that the Dons were expecting this season, but they find themselves in the bottom half of the SPL table after a season of disappointment and managerial changes.

Motherwell would have been targeting the top half too, but the Steelmen went 15 top-flight matches without a win earlier in the campaign. This weekend’s clash is an intriguing contest between two sides who will be looking to build some positive results as the season draws to a close, and you can read below for my Aberdeen vs Motherwell predictions.

Team News

Bojan Miovski was forced off during Aberdeen’s Scottish Cup semi-final against Celtic, but the forward is fit to start. Slobodan Rubezic and James McGarry are not available for the visit of Motherwell, however.

Jonathan Obika and Callum Slattery remain unavailable for the visitors.

Match Odds

Aberdeen are 11/10 to win the game, giving them an implied win probability of 47.6%, while Motherwell are 5/2, or a 28.6% chance. The draw, meanwhile, is available at 12/5.

Over 2.5 goals @ 5/6

Aberdeen were involved in a thrilling 3-3 draw with Celtic in the Scottish Cup semi-finals last time out, and while the Dons went on to lose that tie on penalties, the performance demonstrated the firepower the Reds have at their disposal.

The Granite City side can call on Bojan Miovski, who has hit the net 14 times in the Scottish Premiership this season and that has come from a team who have been struggling for much of the campaign.

Barry Robson departed the Pittodrie dugout, Neil Warnock was not in charge for long and Peter Leven is at the helm until the end of the season.

Only three teams have scored more Premiership home goals than Aberdeen this term, but no side have conceded more than the 28 goals they have shipped at the other end.

Motherwell have found some form in front of goal and the Steelmen have hit the net 10 times in their last six top-flight games.

February’s Pittodrie clash between these sides finished 3-3 and another high-scoring contest can be expected.

There haven’t been many gusts in Aberdeen’s sails this season and the wind may have been completely taken out of their campaign following the Scottish Cup exit against Celtic.

The Dons have won only four Premiership matches at their home base this term and Motherwell have lost only one of their last six top-flight games. That was to Aberdeen at Fir Park, but the Well look good value to turn the tables at Pittodrie.
