Monaco Grand Prix 2024 Predictions: Good value on Verstappen dominance

The Monaco Grand Prix rolls into town again this weekend and there is certainly a raised level of intrigue around one of the most historic races on the calendar. The glitz and glamour of Monaco attracts some of the biggest celebrities in the world and after Max Verstappen’s narrow win last weekend, Lando Norris will be desperate to get back on top. 

It was thought that the world champion would run away with the Drivers’ Championship again this season, but the recent improvement of the McLaren’s has spiced up the title race, while Ferrari are still competitive. Max Verstappen to qualify on pole @ 11/10

I know Max has been good this season, and he now leads the Drivers’ Championship by 48 points, but it feels like a particular statistic has gone slightly under the radar in 2024. Verstappen has qualified on pole in every single race this season so far. Seven out of seven this year, and if you included Abu Dhabi in 2023, that is now eight poles on the trot. 

It’s a remarkable feat for the Dutch driver, and he’s clearly got the pace needed to smash in a fastest lap in qualifying. He was on pole here last year, and it's going to be tough for any of the other drivers to overhaul him, given Max knows just how much is riding on this qualification session. I think we are getting cracking value for Verstappen to qualify on pole. 

Max Verstappen to win the race @ 8/11

Given I believe Verstappen will start on pole, it makes perfect sense to also back him to win the race. Lando Norris’ improvement means that 8/11 is actually one of the longer prices we have seen on Verstappen to win a race this season. 

As usual at Monaco, the pole-sitter will be the heavy favourite to take the chequered flag, due to the tight turns and limited overtaking opportunities. Last season he qualified on pole and won the race, while the man who starts in first has only failed to win six times in the last 20 editions. That means the pole sitter wins the race 70% of the time and with bigger cars than ever, it is even more difficult to see any change at the top of the order. 

Lando Norris podium finish @ 4/6

Ah, good old Lando. The McLaren driver has been in exceptional form of late, finishing in the top two in each of the last three races. There’s clearly been an injection of pace into the McLaren over the last month or so and Norris is arguably performing as well as he has during his entire career so far. 

He came close to Verstappen at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, and came out on top in Miami to secure his first ever race win. Although I don't think he will be able to beat the Red Bull here, he can certainly be the best of the rest. 4/6 on him to secure a top three finish is a price I can get behind.
