India started strongly in the 1st T20 as a quite spectacular 84 from Abhishek Sarma set the platform for victory. Jamie Pacheco previews the 2nd T20I from Raipur on Friday, January 23, start time 13:30.

Jamie missed out with two 0.5pt bets last time out, but is looking to hit back with a wager on the uber reliable Kyle Jamieson and another rather unusual bet at 8/5. Let's check out his IND vs NZ Predictions for Friday...

India vs New Zealand 2nd T20I Betting Tips

  • 0.5pts Back Kyle Jamieson to be NZ Top Bowler @ 10/3
  • 0.5pts Back NZ team of Top Batter 8/5

Match Preview:

India

That Abishek Sharma really is some player. When he gets going, he doesn't stop, does he?

His knock of 84 off 35 was ultimately the difference between the two sides, though contributions with the bat from Rinku Sigh and Sky Yadav aren't to be underestimated.

With the ball, Varun Chakravarthy and Shivam Dube each took two wickets, with Dube increasingly becoming something of a golden arm.

Jasprit Bumrah was uncharacteristically expensive but was maybe just a bit rusty. Then again, it was a high-scoring match anyway.

It would be surprising if they made any changes. Not because they're desperate to win the Series but rather because this is probably their best XI and they'll want to play them together as much as possible with next month's World Cup in mind.

New Zealand

We shouldn't be too harsh on NZ. They came up against an Abishek on fire on a belter of a pitch.

To be fair to them, they did a decent job of just about staying in the chase for most of the second innings.

Kyle Jamieson was the pick of the bowlers with 2-27 and Glenn Phillips batted beautifully for his 78 off 40.

Captain Mitch Satner was criticised for giving Mitchell and Phillips an over each that proved extremely costly, but then again, now is the time to experiment, not next month.

India vs New Zealand 1st T20I Predicted Lineups

  • India: Abishek Sharma, Samson, Sky Yadav, Kishan, Pandya, Dube, Rinku, Axar, Chakravarthy, Bumrah, Arshdeep.
  • New Zealand: Conway, Robinson, Ravindra, Phillips, Chapman, Mitchell, Bracewell, Santner, Jamieson, Henry, Sodhi.

Pitch and conditions

There's only ever been one T20I played here, which isn't very helpful.

India played Australia here two years ago and defended 174 pretty easily. Axar took 3/16 to win the man of the match award and Rinku top-scored for them with 46.

The wickets were shared almost equally between pacers and seamers. We don't expect the team batting first to get to 200. No rain is forecast.

Match Winner odds.

We were on NZ last time at 2/1 and I don't regret that. Maybe if Abishek had been out for say 50 it could have been very different.

The Kiwis were competitive as ever but they're not quite as good in this format as they are in ODIs.

India are slightly shorter this time, which is understandable. They're 2/7 (77.8%) to New Zealand's 5/2 (28/6%).

That's a tempting price on NZ, but I'll leave it alone this time.

NZ Top Bowler

Time to return to our old friend Kyle Jamieson.

He was by far the best bowler on the pitch the other day and has now been their top wicket-taker in two of the last four games (3ODIs, 1 T20I), though sadly we missed out on both times he did, and when we were on him, he didn't win it.

But he certainly looks back to his best after a load of injuries, and on a wicket that isn't necessarily one for the twirlers, he should go well again.

Team of Top Batter

Abishek did top score across both teams the other day with his 84 but Phillips was just one big blow away from matching him with 78.

The reason I mention this is because I think there's some value in the 8/5 that a Kiwi player top scores across both sides this time round.

Whether NZ win or lose, the likes of Rachin Ravindra, Mark Chapman, Philips, Mitchell, or Devon Conway are just as capable of getting to 70 odd or more as the Indian players are, so I think that's a decent bet.
