Papua New Guinea and Uganda will square up in the T20 World Cup at the Providence Stadium in Guyana on Wednesday, and it is set to be a historic occasion.

Neither side has ever won a match at the T20 World Cup and something's got to give in this match as they scramble for points in Group C, and below you can find my Papua New Guinea vs Uganda prediction.

Papua New Guinea vs Uganda Prediction

  • Sese Bau top Papua New Guinea Run Scorer @ 18/5
  • Alpesh Ramjani top Uganda Wicket Taker @ 16/5

With Afghanistan, West Indies and New Zealand the other teams in this section, Papua New Guinea and Uganda know this represents their best chance of picking up two points.

And Papua New Guinea are expected to have the edge after they pushed the Windies close in a five-wicket defeat last time out, whereas Uganda were trounced by 125 runs against Afghanistan.

Team News

Papua New Guinea were without their highest wicket-taker in T20 internationals, Norman Vanua, last time out and he could miss out again.

Uganda have no new injuries to report and can be expected to stick with the same starting 11 that lost heavily to Afghanistan.

Papua New Guinea vs Uganda Odds

Papua New Guinea are 3/10 favourites to see off African counterparts Uganda, who are priced at 5/2 to win after their thrashing by Afghanistan.

In the player markets, opener Tony Ura is favourite to top score for Papua New Guinea, while Assad Vala and Sese Bau are also contenders at 100/30 and 18/5 respectively.

Ronak Patel and Simon Ssesazi lead the way in the Uganda Top Run Scorer betting, with both at 3/1.

Opener Tony Ura is largely considered Papua New Guinea's biggest danger with the bat with the right-hander having scored 1620 runs in T20 internationals - the most of any player from his nation.

But Ura fluffed his lines in Papua New Guinea's T20 World Cup opener, scoring only two runs off five balls before he was dismissed by West Indies ace Romario Shepherd.

That followed underwhelming knocks of eight against Oman and one against Namibia in the team's warm-up matches, and Sese Bau could instead be the player to back.

Bau has scored 941 runs for his country in this format and scored an impressive 50 against the West Indies last time out, firing six fours and one six.

He was also among his team's leading scorers with 18 and 29 in the two warm-up contests and is worth chancing at 18/5 to top score for his team.

Alpesh Ramjani top Uganda Wicket Taker @ 16/5

There was very little for Uganda to shout about in their first match against Afghanistan at the T20 World Cup.

After a weak display with the ball, Uganda allowed Afghanistan to rack up 183 runs but their reply was even more miserable.

After 16 overs, Uganda had been bowled out for just 58 runs and the odds are again stacked against them in this contest.

That said, Alpesh Ramjani can be handy with the ball, and he is worth backing to be Uganda's top wicket-taker.

Ramjani took just the one wicket against Afghanistan but that was opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz (76) and his economy rate of 8.25 was among the best of their seven bowlers.

Born in Mumbai, Ramjani has taken 70 wickets in 39 T20 internationals and can be dangerous at any phase of the match.
