Lucky 15 Tips: Solar ready to eclipse Windsor rivals

There are five meetings taking place across Britain and Ireland on Monday, with day one of the Galway Races the standout offering. Galway's evening card is a mix of Flat and jumps racing, with Ripon and Windsor on the Flat joining in the evening fare, while earlier on action comes from Ayr and Southwell (AW).

16:15 Ayr - Empirical @ 10/11

Seven runners contest this 1m2f Class 4 contest at Ayr and Ed Walker's wide margin Nottingham scorer EMPIRICAL looks the one to beat.

That was just his second turf start and he made short work of the assignment from the furlong pole, coming clear for an eight-length success.

The handicapper has bumped him up 10lb, but he may still be in front of the assessor for now, sporting blinkers for the first time for a trainer boasting an impressive recent strike-rate of 24 per cent.

18:53 Windsor - Solar Invincible @ 9/4

SOLAR INVINCIBLE was second best over 5f at Windsor six weeks ago and Roger Teal's gelding may go one better now.

The son of Invincible Army has won races at Chelmsford and Bath over the minimum trip but just couldn't get to Truly Glamourous over the flying five here in that June race.

It's a contest that has worked out well, with the winner and the third both obliging on their next starts and two more next-time-out winners amongst the beaten horses.

Solar Invincible is rated 2lb higher now but on that evidence is well worth a first crack at 6f on turf.

Ffos Las winner Forever Glamourous comes here with claims but that was a weak contest the Cable Bay gelding won four weeks ago and his bubble may be burst by Saffie Osborne's partner.

19:40 Ripon - Eleven Eighty Two @ 7/2

The Middleham Park silks could have a major say in this 6f nursery contest, with Richard Hannon's recent Nottingham maiden winner moving into this sphere with valid claims but Ben Haslam's ELEVEN EIGHTY TWO is a real danger.

The Ardad filly has been a silver medallist at Carlisle and here over course and distance in her two most recent starts.

She was worn down late by the William Haggas-trained Lady Rosalind here three weeks ago and is selected to go one better now with Toby Moore claiming a very useful 7lb in the saddle on this occasion.

19:50 Galway - Vantage Code @ 8/1

Owners Pearse and Annette Mee have described Galway as the Olympics of horse racing in the past and it's notable that VANTAGE CODE runs for the first time in their colours in the Gra Chocolates Handicap over an extended 1m4f trip.

Trained by Emmet Mullins, the gelded son of Ghaiyyath showed improved form when second at Roscommon (1m2½f, good) last month, seemingly benefitting from a more positive ride.

He had been well supported in the market for that contest and was only just worn down by the favourite inside the final furlong.

He has been snapped up since by these owners and stepping up once more in trip looks a positive for a horse that could have more to offer off a lenient mark of 69 with Wayne Lordan a positive jockey booking.

If all four selections won at the quoted prices, a 50p win Lucky 15 would return around £339 for a £7.50 total stake.
