Lucky 15 Tips: Breathtaking contests from Newmarket and Sandown

Simply wonderful sport on Saturday for us to enjoy, and I'm visiting both Newmarket and Sandown for our Lucky 15 tips which is a bit of a departure, but an eminently sensible one given the quality of the racing.
I'll pinch a couple of fancies from the ITV live racing piece and team them up with two potential crackers that are not being covered by the channel. We've had winners this week, as per, and here's hoping that our Saturday sizzlers don't fluff their lines! Whatever you're up to have a cracking weekend, and thanks for your company, as always. Greatly appreciated.
Lucky 15 Tips - Saturday 4 July 2026
- 15:15 Newmarket - Paddy The Squire @ 7/1
- 15:35 Sandown - Gethin @ 4/1
- 16:25 Newmarket - Silver Ghost @ 2/1
- 17:22 Sandown - Spoken Truth @ 7/2
*odds correct at time of publication
15:15 Newmarket - Paddy The Squire @ 7/1
I've looked at this contest in some depth in an accompanying ITV live races piece, and I'm hoping Paddy The Squire can do the business for us and take this prize back to Scotland. To read the detail behind the selection kindly click HERE. Thank you.
15:35 Sandown - Gethin @ 4/1
In similar vein Sandown's jewel today, the G1 Eclipse Stakes, has been previewed as part of the ITV live races piece and my theory that Gethin can win this for Wathnan and The Doyler can be examined right HERE. Many thanks.
16:25 Newmarket - Silver Ghost @ 2/1
This is a 7f Class 2 handicap, for three-year-olds and upwards.
Typically competitive Saturday fare, but at least our selection is in pretty much career-high order. The four-year-old filly Silver Ghost is a daughter of Phoenix Of Spain, an Irish 2000 Guineas winner, and out of a Green Desert mare.
In a similar contest to this 49 days ago in a slightly lower grade Silver Ghost was beaten a neck, finishing well. The third home that day went on to score with authority at Donny and the fifth has since been denied twice; by 0.75l, and a nose.
A fortnight prior to her last run, on seasonal reappearance, she went down here at today's trip/grade by 2.75l, running on. Looks to me that she's been put away for this, enjoys the Newmarket air, and has a terrific chance for trainer Emma Lavelle and jockey David Egan.
Is up 2lb for that last reverse to a mark of 93, but she's earned it.
17:22 Sandown - Spoken Truth @ 7/2
Another Class 2 handicap, 10f this time, for three-year-olds and upwards.
My pick is a five-year-old gelding by the peerless Frankel, out of a Dubawi mare - Spoken Truth. The Horse Watchers 1 syndicate own, and the outstanding David O'Meara trains in Upper Helmsley, North Yorkshire.
The owners sporting the now famous silks are a very shrewd lot and have horses with several top yards. This fella has surprisingly won just once from 14 starts to date and that success was for former handler Dermot Weld in Ireland.
He joined David and 'the Watchers' in March of this year and has run five times for new connections - very consistently and respectably. Time now to strike methinks, and a very significant factor in my eyes is the booking of champion jockey Oisin Murphy.
It's exactly what this group would do to maximise what I hope they see as a winning opportunity and that's no reflection whatsoever on the jocks who've been in the plate previously.
When the champ becomes available the temptation must be high, and with Danny Tudhope who could conceivably have been engaged riding at Newmarket it falls to Murphy to get the UK element of the gelding's career properly up and running.
If all four of our selections won, today's notional 50p win Lucky 15, at the prices indicated (they can of course fluctuate), would return around £590 for a £7.50 total stake. If you can improve upon our selections (of course you can) - then go for it!
