World Cup Odds

USA @ 11/8

USA are the marginal favourites to be the best performing North American team and I can see why. They have a very kind group, featuring Paraguay, Australia and Turkey and they should be able to get through that group.

They also have a potentially kind knockout route, with a last-32 game against Egypt or Iran the most likely. They may meet a big side in the next round, but could cause a few shocks along the way. Mauricio Pochettino will be hoping that Weston McKennie and Christian Pulisic can drag the side deep into a tournament they are co-hosting.

Mexico @ 6/4

Mexico feel like a great shout in this market. They will play all three group games, and then two knockout games at home should they top the group. I think they should win Group A, with South Africa, South Korea and Czech Republic, especially if they win their opening game against South Africa.

Win the group and a last 32 clash with Saudi Arabia could follow in Mexico City, before a test against England in the last 16. That’s a huge game on home soil and they could do something special, but they will be underdogs. Win that and they head to Miami, which could spell the end of the road for Javier Aguirre.

Canada @ 10/3

Oh Canada… I think their fixtures are kind in this tournament. Bosnia-Herzegovina up first followed by Qatar, so six points from six is a definite possibility. Switzerland could be a toss-up on who wins the group, and Jesse Marsch could certainly get the best out of them.

If they come second, they could face South Korea in the last 32, in Los Angeles and I think once they leave Canada it could be tough for them.

Panama @ 20/1

Now Panama could cause a bit of a shock in England’s group. They are likely to lose to the Three Lions, but I believe they could get something against both Ghana and Croatia, with three or four points likely to carry them through.

Panama first topped a group with Suriname, El Salvador and Guatemala and then won four out of four in their next qualifying group to reach the finals. They have some pedigree having been in Russia in 2018, but it would take a miracle for them to progress past the last 32.

Haiti @ 50/1

A group with Brazil, Morocco and Scotland is going to be extremely tough to progress from for Haiti, however they made it to this tournament having played every qualifier outside of their home country. With its capital city reportedly 85% controlled by gangs, Haiti hasn't played a home game in four years but they’ve made it to this World Cup against the odds.

Haiti stunned Honduras and Costa Rica in qualifying but this would be a seismic shock if they got out of this tough group.

Curacao @ 66/1

Curacao are at the World Cup for the first time as they overcame Jamaica in a dramatic qualifying group to reach the finals. They are the perennial underdogs here, the smallest nation to ever make it to the World Cup and are in a group with Germany, Ecuador and Ivory Coast.

If they get a point it would be an incredible achievement, but qualification is surely a pipe dream.
