Lucky 15 Tips: Drop Dead Gorgeous to get back on track at Navan

The quality racing action continues across Britain and Ireland on Sunday with meetings from Goodwood, Navan, Punchestown and Perth to take in.

Goodwood and Navan have two Listed contests on their Flat cards, while they go over the jumps at Punchestown and Perth. Our expert has four selections to form a Lucky 15.

15:27 Navan - Hazdann @ 12/1

Dermot Weld has been operating at a healthy strike-rate in the last fortnight and he runs the lightly raced HAZDANN in this Listed event at Navan.

Hazdann looked badly in need of the experience when ninth on debut at Gowran Park in June 2024 but he left that run well behind him when getting off the mark at the Curragh later that month.

The form of that maiden was excellent, with the majority of the field going on to win later on that season, and the runner-up beat Delacroix in a Group 2.

He wasn’t seen again that season, eventually making his return in a Guineas trial in March 2025 at Leopardstown, where he finished a respectable fourth to Henri Matisse, who went on to win the French Guineas.

15:35 Goodwood - Botagoz @ 3/1

BOTAGOZ did not get the clearest of passages through when eventually coming out on top on debut at Kempton in December. She did well to score by a relatively comfortable margin under the circumstances and it was definitely a promising performance first time out

Roger Varian’s filly made her first start of the current campaign in a Nottingham novice under a penalty in April and the step up to an extended mile proved to be no problem. Third in a warm Listed race at York after that, this race at Goodwood is potentially easier and she can progress.

16:02 Navan - Drop Dead Gorgeous @ 9/4

It’s easy to forgive the Aidan O’Brien-trained DROP DEAD GORGEOUS for her below-par display in a Group 3 over 1m2f last time out but it’s fair to say she was never put in the race to be able to challenge so it would be a good idea to put a line through that.

After winning her maiden on debut in the spring, she then ran in a Group 3 over a mile at the Curragh and was a very respectable third on that occasion. She now drops into a Listed race at Navan and you would imagine that a similar effort would give her every chance of winning.

16:45 Goodwood - Arabian Crown @ 7/2

Charlie Appleby’s ARABIAN CROWN was a bonafide Derby contender once upon a time but injury issues led to him missing most of his three-year-old season. Impressive in the Zetland Stakes as a juvenile, he went on to win a Group 3 Classic trial at Sandown too.

He was a fair third in a Newmarket Group 2 first time out last season but struggled at Goodwood after that.

Returning to winning ways at Windsor last time out, he came out on top in that 1m3f Listed contest and that form suggests he has a leading chance back at Goodwood.
