Horse Racing Tips: Botagoz can strike at Goodwood

There’s something to cater to everyone’s tastes on Sunday as the action is split equally between National Hunt and Flat across Britain and Ireland. The best racing is brought to us on the Flat from Goodwood and Navan as they host four Listed races between them, while the jumping action comes from Punchestown and Perth.
Among our Monday fancies is a Roger Varian runner in one of Goodwood’s two Listed contests who finished third in a warm race last time out and looks well set to get her head in front, provided she produces a similar level of performance.

15:35 Goodwood - Botagoz @ 3/1
A field of 14 has been declared for this race, which is open to three-year-old fillies, and Roger Varian’s BOTAGOZ gets the nod. She remains very lightly raced and has shown a significant amount of potential in all of her three starts to date.
Making her debut over 7f at Kempton in December, she was in touch with the leaders in the early exchanges and had to switch right at a key stage, after finding trouble in running. That proved to be no obstacle in the end and she saw the trip out well to score comfortably.
There was more to come under a penalty at Nottingham on her first start of the current season and the step up to an extended mile proved to be no problem, as she won by two lengths. Third in a warm Listed contest after that, there could well be more to come.

16:02 Navan - Drop Dead Gorgeous @ 9/4
The Kooyonga Stakes appears to be a new race and it presents the Aidan O’Brien and Ryan Moore combination with the opportunity to win another decent prize. DROP DEAD GORGEOUS has only had three starts so far and the best is surely yet to come from her.
This impeccably bred filly is a half-sister to Gleneagles and produced a very smart performance to win on her debut at Naas in March. Bumped up in grade after that, she contested the Group 3 Athasi Stakes and was a respectable third.
Subsequently stepping to 1m2f didn’t go to plan though and she failed to fire behind stablemate Causeway, and jockey Wayne Lordan didn’t give her too hard a time either.
Drop Dead Gorgeous can bounce back to her best now down in trip and grade, so don’t write her off just yet.

16:45 Goodwood - Arabian Crown @ 7/2
Charlie Appleby isn’t having the greatest of seasons by his own exceptional standards but he has still landed some nice winners in the last couple of months. He has one runner in the second of Goodwood’s Listed races and ARABIAN CROWN looks to have every chance.
Clearly the five-year-old isn’t the easiest to train but he does bring a decent level of form to the table.
The son of Dubawi showed a significant amount of promise at two, winning a Salisbury Listed race before going on to win the Group 3 Zetland Stakes at Newmarket.
Appleby’s gelding put himself into the Derby picture with an impressive three-and-a-quarter-length success in a Group 3 trial at Sandown the following season.
We then didn’t see him for the best part of a year but he was last seen winning a Windsor Listed event and, with William Buick on board, a big run could well be on the cards.
