Lucky 15 Tips: Bay Of Stars can follow up on handicap debut

Sunday 10th May 2026, 7:13

We’ve got a fairly quiet end to a busy week on Sunday, with just three meetings taking place across Britain and Ireland, but the focus is on quality over quantity.

There’s a good mix on offer in Ireland, with some Group Flat action taking place at Leopardstown and a National Hunt card coming up at Cork. They also race at Ludlow on the other side of the Irish Sea.

Lucky 15s are one of the most popular multiple bets, and for a very good reason. Here are our expert’s four strongest fancies from Leopardstown on Sunday and amongst them is a thoroughly unexposed handicap debutant in the closing 1m 4f handicap.

13:55 Leopardstown – Cannes @ 4/5

Joseph O’Brien is one of Ireland’s leading Flat trainers and he has landed plenty of winners in the last fortnight. He runs the twice-raced Cannes in this race and the son of Sea The Stars should appreciate the step up to 1m4f.

There’s plenty to like about his pedigree and winning a maiden of this stature shouldn’t be beyond him. An expensive purchase, he finished second in a maiden over a mile on debut at the Curragh last term despite the ground being very testing on that occasion.

He finished second again here over 1m2f last month too and the slightly better ground probably helped. Improvement seems likely and this looks an excellent opportunity.

14:30 Leopardstown – City Of Memphis @ 11/8

Paddy Twomey’s reputation grows with every season and his strike rate over the last fortnight is very impressive. His runner, City Of Memphis, is a very lightly raced filly and she’s entitled to progress this season, although she might not need to in order to win this.

She impressed on debut at Cork last May and managed to win by a comfortable margin, despite getting off to a slow start over 6f. Connections made the decision to run her in the Irish 1000 Guineas after that and she produced a solid display to finish a respectable fifth.

Making a winning return at Gowran in April, she looks ready for this sort of grade and jockey Billy Lee has also been in good form of late.

15:05 Leopardstown – Alcantor @ 7/4

There’s only one winner of this race according to the form book and it should be Joseph O’Brien’s Alcantor, who is making his first start for the yard.

Previously based with Andre Fabre, he showed potential as a two-year-old and was only beaten half-a-length when second in the Group 1 Criterium International.

He was also a narrow third in the French 2000 Guineas last term and returned to winning ways in a Group 3 at Saint-Cloud in March 2025.

The bottom line is that his rivals have to improve significantly in order to match his form and victory is anticipated.

17:20 Leopardstown – Bay Of Stars @ 5/1

Bay Of Stars has a smart pedigree and is out of a Listed-winning mare.

Dermot Weld’s three-year-old made his debut in a Dundalk maiden back in November, where he finished sixth. He needed the experience badly, was slow to get going and hung to the left.

Returning over 1m4f at Dundalk in April, he was much more professional on that occasion and managed to get off the mark.

There should be loads more to come from him, now tackling handicaps, and an opening mark of 80 shouldn’t be beyond him.

If all four of our selections won, today's notional 50p win Lucky 15, at the prices indicated (they can of course fluctuate), would return around £123 for a £7.50 total stake. If you can improve upon our selections (of course you can) - then go for it!
