Lucky 15 Tips: Beautiful Thirsk is our Saturday destination

We've got the ITV races from Ayr and Newbury nicely covered courtesy of our companion piece so for our Lucky 15 tips let's visit that beautiful North Yorkshire venue, Thirsk.

EIGHT cracking races on the card, kicking in at 13:37, there are plenty of runners, so lots to get our teeth into!

The opener is a 5f sprint for two-year-old fillies, none of whom have raced yet.

Our selection is Bai Tong, a daughter of Blue Point and trained by the mighty Karl Burke. Hard to be too confident but I wouldn't mind betting she'll start favourite. The admirable Sam James will be doing the pushing.

Let's hope she's smart.

14:12 - Advance Twentyfive @ 9/4

A 7f maiden now for three-year-olds and upwards.

Our pick is a Richard & Peter Fahey inmate, trained about 30 miles away - a three-year-old gelding with seven highly respectable starts behind him but no wins - yet.

Advance Twentyfive last appeared in a £50k final at York in October at this trip and was beaten just a length. He looks a certainty to win a race of this nature on what he's achieved thus far, and why not on Saturday?

The outstanding Oisin Orr is in the saddle.

17:07 - Mo Of Cairo @ 9/2

Kevin Stott rides for Kevin Ryan, in a Class 3 handicap sprint over 5f, for three-year-olds.

Mo Of Cairo is one-from-four, and is reappearing for the season after a terrific effort at York when last seen (beaten a head at the August meeting in a £50k 6f nursery).

He's up 3lb for that which looks very fair, and if straight for this comeback run must have an outstanding chance. Drawn in the two box, which on good ground hopefully won't be a disadvantage as a high number is often preferable over sprint trips on easier ground, up the nearside rail.

By Havana Gray, a very speedy sire, and out of a Danehill Dancer mare, so beautifully bred for the job.

17:40 - What What What @ 11/1

Should be some value to be had in this 17-runner cavalry charge!

My pick is the four-year-old gelding trained by Mick & David Easterby not a million miles away in Sheriff Hutton - What What What.

Two wins from 20 starts so has been kept pretty busy, and last time at Southwell 53 days ago he scored by a neck off a mark of 51.

Only up 2lb in this lowly basement grade, and the excellent Joanna Mason takes the mount - legendary trainer Mick's beloved grand-daughter no less!
