Lucky 15 Tips: Group action to enjoy at HQ on Wednesday

You know the new flat season is in full swing when you can rock up to HQ and hear race names like the 'Nell Gwyn' and the 'Earl of Sefton' bandied about.
Both contests take place today as the Craven meeting continues at Newmarket. Terrific racing, and the first four are covered LIVE on ITV; ideal material then for Wednesday's Lucky 15 tips. Chester's May jamboree is waiting patiently in the wings, as is York's Dante gathering - a simply wonderful time of the year.
We certainly hit the ground running yesterday at this meet with Startled, returned at a whopping 15/2, and Darn Hot Gallop, whose SP was an incredible 22/1!
Enjoy!
Lucky 15 tips - Wednesday, April 15
Newmarket
- 13:50 - Invictus Gold @ 15/2
- 14:25 - Wareeth @ 3/1
- 15:00 - Damysus @ 13/8
- 15:35 - Act Of Kindness @ 4/1
*Odds correct as of the time of publication
13:50 - Invictus Gold @ 15/2
The opener is a Class 2 sprint handicap worth a very pleasant £25k to the winner.
This is invariably keenly contested and this year's renewal is no exception. My fancy ran third in a similar contest at this meeting last term, and followed up by scoring here a few weeks later.
Tom Clover's Invictus Gold certainly knows his way around both the Rowley Mile and July courses at the home of flat racing. The four-year-old Invincible Spirit gelding gets the brilliant Rossa Ryan for the first time this afternoon and from his nine career starts thus far has managed three victories - two of them here.
He's entered up in a Newmarket Heritage handicap at the start of May and a measure of how classy this fella has become is that he shoulders topweight of 9st 10lb this afternoon. However - loves it here, goes well fresh, and has RR in the plate. Yes please.
14:25 - Wareeth @ 3/1
This three-year-old Sea The Stars colt made a huge impression at Newcastle on debut 25 days ago, absolutely bolting up in a one mile novice by 14l!
Wareeth runs in the famous Sheikh Ahmed Al Maktoum silks, is trained by Archie Watson in Upper Lambourn, and will have Hollie Doyle up top, as she was in the North-East.
Didn't in all likelihood beat much at Gosforth Park, but the way he scampered away and hit the line was deeply impressive. He's pitched in with the big boys now in this Listed affair and this will give us a clear idea of exactly where connections stand in terms of what his programme should look like.
He's got an early closing Dante Stakes entry at York for next month (G2,10.5f) and that would be a natural stepping-stone if he were to shine here, as his illustrious sire took the Juddmonte Stakes over course and distance on the Knavesmire back in 2009.
Fabulous race - my highlight of the day.
15:00 - Damysus @ 13/8
More famous silks, those of Wathnan Racing, and this time carried by a four-year-old Frankel colt going 1m 1f in this G3 contest - Damysus.
Team Gosden train, here at HQ, and the owner's main man James Doyle has the riding assignment. Damysus has three wins from six starts and when last seen, here at this trip in October, he took the G3 Darley Stakes quite cosily.
He holds a G1 Lockinge entry and carries a Group 3 race-winning penalty here of 3lb, but I don't expect that to inconvenience him. Another race to savour.
15:35 - Act Of Kindness @ 4/1
ITV's last race is the G3 fillies' spring staple, the Nell Gwyn, over 7f. One or two might harbour Betfred 1000 Guineas dreams - any future champions lurking this afternoon?
Our selection is a Godolphin representative; a daughter of Siyouni, Group-placed at this age and who got to within 2.25l of Canford Cliffs in the G1 St James's Palace sixteen summers ago.
Act Of Kindness gets Will Buick up top, of course, and his tremendous record here is always a big plus. Charlie Appleby trains, in red-hot order with his early-season runners, and is invariably lethal here on home turf.
The selection has a Fred Darling entry at Newbury on Saturday but assuming she stands her ground for this, I can see her being tough to beat.
If all four of our selections won, today's notional 50p win Lucky 15, at the prices indicated (they can of course fluctuate), would return around £516 for a £7.50 total stake. If you can improve upon our selections (of course you can) - then go for it!
