Punjab Kings topped the IPL table before falling short in the final last season and they opened the new campaign with a win over Gujarat Titans.

Now they visit Chennai Super Kings, who finished bottom of the table last term and have carried on from where they left off, suffering a disappointing defeat to Rajasthan Royals in their first outing.

For Punjab Kings, captain Shreyas Iyer is expected to play despite taking a knock on the hand in their opening game, after it was announced that he had not broken any bones.

The two teams who finished at either end of the IPL table face off on Friday as Chennai Super Kings host Punjab Kings. The latter have won seven of the last eight head-to-heads and should be able to add to that tally with another success.

Chennai had an extremely disappointing campaign last season but don’t seem to have resolved many of their issues as they were skittled for 127 by Rajasthan Royals in their opener before their opponents cruised to that total with 47 balls and eight wickets to spare.

Punjab Kings on the other hand chased a total of 163 to perfection against Gujarat Titans, with Cooper Connolly anchoring their innings with an unbeaten 72 as they chased the total with five balls to go.

The Kings’ top order has to be respected with Priyansh Arya, Prabhsimran Singh, Cooper Connolly and Shreyas Iyer a formidable unit, and their bowling is not bad either, led by Arshdeep Singh.

The veteran spinner should be suited by this pitch, which looks set to offer turn. He has been the model of consistency in the IPL over the years, taking at least 16 wickets in each of the last seven seasons and he is worth siding with to be Punjab’s top bowler with conditions in his favour.
