Bangor scaled

There are a total of six meetings scheduled across Britain and Ireland on Saturday, four jump fixtures accompanied by a pair of AW Flat cards, one of which will be run under the lights.

Among our Saturday horse racing tips is one for trainer Jamie Snowden who has been knocking at the door this year on ground arguably slower than ideal.

13:07 Bangor - Tommy Pickles @ 6/4

The Jamie Snowden-trained TOMMY PICKLES has shown the benefits of wind surgery when posting two solid efforts in defeat at Ffos Las and Hereford this year and looks the one to beat in the opening maiden hurdle at Bangor-on-Dee.

The six-year-old, who ran to a Racing Post Rating of 100 when third on his rules/hurdling debut at Newton Abbot in October, has run to a mark 10lb above that in his two starts since undergoing a breathing operation, losing out narrowly on heavy ground at Ffos Las in January, prior to finding only Glancing Jack (runs 1.50 Newbury) too good for him at Hereford last month.

He's since been given an official mark of 114, which reads well in the context of this race and there's the prospect of further improvement now that he's encountering good to soft ground for the first time.

14:32 Navan - Maxios Prime @ 7/2

The Philip Rothwell-trained MAXIOS PRIME has very little, if anything, in hand off his current official mark of 104, but he's proving admirably consistent this season and shaped like a return to 2m would suit when finishing third over an extended 2m2f at Leopardstown at the start of the month.

The five-year-old has won only once in 11 starts over hurdles, that win coming at Fairyhouse in February last year off a mark of 93, but he's shown gradual improvement since, finishing in the frame in five of his last six outings and regularly running to Racing Post Ratings of above 100.

He had the reopposing Catchabird (winner since) behind him last time and should be capable of confirming his superiority over that rival on these 6lb better terms.
