Lucky 15 tips

The Cheltenham Festival has been and gone for another year but Flat racing fans will be delighted to hear that racing returns to the Curragh on Sunday. They host the €100,000 Irish Lincolnshire, which has attracted the attention of a British raider.

The Curragh’s aforementioned Flat card is the highlight of the day but there’s a little something for the jumps fans too, with some National Hunt action from Market Rasen and Chepstow.

Our expert has gone through the day’s action with a fine-tooth comb and picked out four strong fancies to consider putting into a Lucky 15.

Lucky 15 Tips - Sunday, March 15

14:35 Curragh – Two And Two @ 10/1

Daniel McLoughlin runs the very lightly-raced and hopefully unexposed TWO AND TWO, a filly who has only had two starts to date.

Well beaten on debut at Dundalk in December, perhaps the 7f trip stretched her as it was a very different story next time.

She got off the mark the following month, where the three-year-old was dropped back to 6f and was much stronger at the finish on this occasion, going on to score by just short of a length.

Handicaps could facilitate further improvement and she gets a hefty allowance on Sunday.

15:10 Curragh – Unique Journey @ 10/3

It could be a good day for trainers with the first name Daniel at the Curragh on Sunday, as Daniel Murphy’s runner UNIQUE JOURNEY seems to have every chance in this valuable sprint handicap.

Progressive at the back end of last season, he finished the campaign with back-to-back course-and-distance successes.

The first of those came off a mark of 83 but he was even more impressive when following up off a 6lb higher mark just 12 days later.

The handicapper is going to catch up sooner or later but Murphy’s gelding could win one or two more before that happens and a 9lb rise is probably fair.

15:45 Curragh – Signora @ 4/11

Aidan O’Brien’s runners often need their first runs at this stage of the season but this daughter of Frankel was deemed good enough to represent Ballydoyle at Royal Ascot last year. Finishing in midfield that day, SIGNORA wasn’t disgraced and this is much easier.

O’Brien’s filly started off in a Group 3 over this trip at Naas in May and she ran a very nice race to finish third behind the precocious Lady Iman.

There is a lot to like about the three-year-old’s pedigree, as she’s related to several winners, and should be too good.

16:20 Curragh – Eastwatch @ 10/1

Andrew Slattery is a shrewd operator across both codes but is probably more at home on the Flat.

The lightly-raced EASTWATCH absolutely bolted up when winning a maiden at Gowran in April, blowing his rivals away to score by nine lengths in a very impressive display.

Struggling in a Listed contest at Leopardstown, he managed to get back on track in a lower grade at Gowran again.

The son of Make Believe didn’t really see the trip out in Listed races after that but handicaps over a mile could well be the way to go with him.
