Lazio vs Sassuolo Prediction: Can away side land another win?

Lazio enjoyed an entertaining 2-2 draw with Atalanta on Wednesday night in the first leg of their Coppa Italia semi-final, but now they must return to Serie A action as they host in-form Sassuolo (19:45 GMT, watch on Betfred).

Team News

Maurizio Sarri may be tempted to name an unchanged team for this one having seen some improvement in that cup semi-final draw, even though there were several changes to his usual side. 

Fisayo Dele-Bashiru starred with a goal from midfield and could keep his place, while Boulaye Dia found a goal from the bench and has done his chance no harm whatsoever. Toma Basic is a doubt for this one for the hosts, while captain Mattia Zaccagni is set to start again having scored five career goals against Sassuolo.

Meanwhile, Sebastian Walukiewicz is back after his suspension for the visitors, but Sassuolo have another ban to deal with - as Andrea Pinamonti was sent off early on in the win over Atalanta. 

M’Bala Nzola should replace him, while Alieu Fadera was withdrawn with an injury, just five minutes after coming on last time out for Fabio Grosso’s side.

Lazio are the favourites to win this game, priced at 23/20 to take the three points, while Sassuolo are the 23/10 underdogs. That gives the hosts an implied win probability of 47%, while a draw is 9/4.

I’m not sure why I’d back Lazio at this current moment in time, so my first pick is going to be to back Sassuolo to come away with all three points. These two feel like they are on obviously different trajectories right now, with Sassuolo having won four of their last five Serie A matches and the hosts dropping like a stone. 

Lazio have a wealth of off-the-field issues right now, and Sarri is attempting to battle against those, but they don’t seem to be performing having won just one of their last seven league games. That has dropped them into the bottom half, and although the cup has provided some relief I think they have big issues right now. 

That means value, in our case, when putting forward an away win. 

Domenico Berardi to score anytime @ 12/5

Experienced winger Domenico Berardi seems to enjoy playing Lazio, so I’m keen to back him to continue his good form with another goal in the capital. He’s scored nine goals against I Biancocelesti in his career and this term he’s been in decent form too - especially given his hamstring issue means he’s only made 17 league appearances. 

Despite the lack of gametime, he’s scored seven Serie A goals, which is a cracking return and he bagged a brace recently against Hellas Verona. I think he’s a good price to score here, given he looks to be getting back to his best.
