Rangers ibrox stadium

Just seven days on from a league battle which increased the pressure on both sides of Glasgow, Rangers and Celtic face off again on Sunday in the Scottish Cup quarter-finals at Ibrox (13:00 GMT, Premier Sports 1).

Celtic came from two down to earn a point last weekend, but there has to be a winner from this season’s fifth Old Firm clash. My Rangers vs Celtic predictions follow, with the latest team news and match odds from Betfred.

Rangers vs Celtic Betting Tips

Team News

Danny Rohl said in his pre-match press conference that he has had a “full house” in training this week.

That includes returns for Connor Barron and Derek Cornelius after long spells out with injury, but the latter at the very least won’t be ready for this one. Barron could be involved as a substitute.

Many of the questions for Rohl relate to whether he will start with the same XI that got the Gers two goals to the good in the league encounter seven days ago.

Nasser Djiga, James Tavernier and Mohamed Diomande are among those who could be recalled.

Viljami Sinisalo will continue in goal for Martin O’Neill’s Celtic, with Kasper Schmeichel’s illness having come at a perfect time for the Bhoys fans who have had enough of his indifferent form this term.

Auston Trusty remains suspended, sitting out the third match of his ban for being sent off against Hibernian at Celtic Park.

Elsewhere, Tomas Cvancara and Reo Hatate should retain their places, with Hatate having come off the bench to such great effect last Sunday.

Rangers vs Celtic Predicted Lineups

  • Rangers: Butland; Sterling, Djiga, Fernandez, Rommens; Diomande, Chukwuani; Skov Olsen, Moore; Naderi, Chermiti
  • Celtic: Sinisalo; Araujo, Arthur, Scales, Tierney; McGregor, Hatate; Yang, Nygren, Tounekti; Cvancara

Rangers vs Celtic Odds

There’s not much in this one for the bookies, with Betfred having Rangers at 21/20 odds-against favourites.

Celtic’s 21/10 price makes the away win an implied 32.3% probability, while it’s 11/4 about the draw.

After opening the scoring with a worldie last week, Youssef Chermiti is 9/2 to strike first again on Sunday.

Rangers vs Celtic Stats

  • While Celtic haven’t won in 6 league meetings, they have come out on top in the last 5 cup encounters (the last 2 going beyond 90 minutes)
  • Both Teams to Score has come in in 9 of the last 13 Old Firm games in all competitions
  • Celtic have kept just 2 clean sheets in 12 attempts in all competitions
  • All of Mikey Moore’s last 4 goals have been the final strike of the fixture, underlining his ability to have a say in broken play late on

Today's Football Fixtures

Rangers & BTTS – Yes @ 12/5

This same bet was a late VAR review from coming in for me seven days ago, and while Rangers invited pressure on in the second half I think they’ll put that right this time around.

For 50 minutes in the league fixture it appeared the biggest threat was that the BTTS portion had no chance of coming in, with the home side absolutely dominating from the kick-off.

But while I can see the Gers coming out similarly this weekend, and on their day they are far too powerful, Celtic are bound to have a period of superiority too.

I reckon Rangers get over the line this time, though not without a scare.

Football Odds

Mikey Moore Last Goalscorer @ 8/1

I almost went for this bet when Rangers met Kilmarnock in the Premiership last month but ended up talking myself out of it.

My hunch was that with Mikey Moore likely to start, he’d probably have been replaced before the last goal was struck.

But it was around that time when Rohl started to be less protective of the Tottenham Hotspur loanee and back him to see games out, hence he netted to complete a 5-1 win against Killie.

And I definitely think he will still be a part of things late on in proceedings in this Old Firm tie, so he can be one of the players to take it to the visitors late in the game. Especially so if Rangers have a narrow lead and Celtic stretch themselves to get back on terms.

The 8/1 being offered up by Betfred seems very generous given the context of Moore having had the final say with his last four goals.
