Ten years on from their last NRL Premiership title, the Cronulla Sharks begin their quest for a fifth Finals appearance in succession when they welcome the Gold Coast Titans to Shark Park on Saturday (17:30 local, 06:30 GMT, Watch NRL).

The Sharkies beat the Minor Premiers, Canberra Raiders, on the way to the Preliminary Final in 2025 and will be looking to go at least one step further in ‘26. Read on for my Cronulla Sharks vs Gold Coast Titans predictions, the latest team news and match odds from Betfred.

Cronulla Sharks vs Gold Coast Titans Odds

Craig Fitzgibbon’s side are huge favourites to get off the mark immediately, with Betfred pricing them at 3/10. That implies a 76.9% probability.

The Titans can be backed at 11/4, with the draw pieced at 18/1.

The two-way handicap gives the Titans a 10.5-point leg-up, and they’re 5/6 to make that count. Sharks are 10/11 to overcome the artificial gap.

Team News

The ACL injury suffered by Ronaldo Mulitalo while on international duty in the autumn opens the way for Sam Stonestreet to start on the wing. Teig Wilton is out after shoulder surgery, so Briton Nikora will get the nod in the back row.

All eyes will again be on Will Kennedy, Braydon Trindall and Nicho Hynes is the one, six and seven positions.

Blayke Brailey leads the side out from hooker with fellow co-captain Cam McInnes still missing after an ACL tear.

Rugby League Odds

Former Sharks interim boss Josh Hannay takes the Titans into battle for the first time but does so without Jayden Campbell due to a hamstring concern.

So, in comes Greece World Cup scrum-half Lachlan Ilias, who endured a turbulent 2025 with the Dragons under Shane Flanagan.

Hannay hands further debuts to Sialetili Faeamani and Max Feagal in the three-quarters, with Arama Hau getting the call ahead of Josh Patston in the second row.

Sharks by 13+ @ 21/20

If Tino Fa’asuamaleaui corners me in a dark street, I’m going for the Titans. But in every other scenario I can foresee, I’d be backing the Sharks to win this one with a bit to spare.

Having really clicked into gear and found a degree of consistency in the second half of last season, Cronulla look like a decent bet to challenge at the top end in ’26.

They have plenty of players off contract at the campaign’s end, so this group will be looking to give their all before their era as a unit comes to a close.

And against a Titans team few are expecting much from – they have finished in the bottom four in nine of the last 12 seasons, including all of the last four – there should be plenty of chances coming the way of the home side in the Shire.

Titans Under 17.5 Points @ 11/10

Not since their early days in the comp have the Titans been a going concern at the top end of the ladder, and that was nearly 20 years ago.

Over the last 15 years, their only consistent spell came under Justin Holbrook when the now-Newcastle Knights boss led them to ninth and eighth.

With the arrival of new boss Hannay comes a new uncertainty about their ability to make a go of the season, if anything. And with Campbell out injured, you have to wonder where their creativity comes from.

They have a bit of punch down the middle, but a side which coughed up 30 points per game last term doesn’t appear set to cause nearly enough problems with the ball to offset those issues without it.

I don’t see them getting enough good ball to give the Sharks too many nightmares on opening night, so the 11/10 looks appealing to me.
