Borussia Dortmund vs Bayern Munich Prediction: Kane to storm Signal Iduna

Borussia Dortmund welcome Bayern Munich to Signal Iduna Park this Saturday, February 28 (17:30GMT, Sky Sports). The Bundesliga’s illustrious pair occupy the top two spots in the table, meaning this edition of Der Klassiker boasts higher stakes than in recent years. 

Dortmund can go within five points of their rivals with 14 league games left to play if they win. But if Die Roten leave with three points, the resulting 11-point gap would mean the title race is all but over. Read on for my Borussia Dortmund vs Bayern Munich predictions.

Team News

The defence is where Dortmund’s injury woes have been at their most acute recently. Emre Can returned from his groin injury in the Atalanta defeat but former Bayern Munich man Niklas Sule is absent with a thigh problem. 

BVB right back Julian Ryerson is suspended for this one after racking up five yellow cards. There might be some good news in the backline though. Nico Schlotterbeck is expected to be in contention after a period on the sidelines.

Injury-hit left back Alphonso Davies sees his woes continue for Bayern. The Canada international is out with a muscle injury. Davies is back on the grass but this game will come too soon for the 27-year-old.

Football Odds

There is the outside possibility of a return for Manuel Neuer. The Germany and Bayern legend had been expected to miss the trip to Signal Iduna Park with a thigh injury, but manager Vincent Kompany noted in his press conference things were “looking good” for the keeper’s return.

The former Burnley manager added “We'll have to discuss it again before the game. We'll talk it over with Manu. If not, we'll go with Jonas (Urbig).”

The hosts are underdogs in their own gaff; priced at 10/3. League leaders Bayern are priced at 8/13 while the draw is on the market at 7/2.

Harry Kane and Serhiou Guirassy to both score is a boosted double from 13/5 to 10/3. Under 3.5 total goals is 1/1.

There is more to Bayern than the fact England’s record goalscorer leads their frontline, of course. But when Kane is in this sort of form, it would be dereliction of duty to overlook him in my tips. 

The Spurs legend has scored a brace in each of his last two Bundesliga outings. He has bagged a frankly ridiculous 28 goals in 23 games this season (while finding the time to rack up five assists).

A 15-goal swing will be needed from his nearest rivals to deny Kane a third Bundesliga Golden Boot. A miracle will be needed to keep him out at Signal Iduna Park. Sign me up for another two goals from the English superstar.

Bayern to win and both teams to score @ 11/8

The last 10 contests between these sides have seen Bayern win seven with two draws and one defeat. Both teams have scored in eight of those 10 matches. The stats are on our side here.

Of course this is a stronger Dortmund side than some of the others Bayern have beaten this decade. But don’t forget, this very Munich side have beaten BVB already this season.

Dortmund are licking their wounds after a 4-1 slapping from Atalanta. Bayern are unbeaten in six games across all competitions with five wins. They have had a full week of rest while their rivals crumbled on the Continental stage. Dortmund can compete. Dortmund can score. But Bayern will win.
