Thursday Racing Tips: More Magic at Chelmsford

A total of five meetings take place this Thursday, with the action getting underway at Thurles, which is followed by racing at Wincanton and Ayr, while the all-weather scene is represented by fixtures at Lingfield and Chelmsford.

There’s a strong mix of jumps and flat action on offer across the day, ensuring plenty of opportunities for punters to get involved from start to finish.

13:43 Ayr - Diamond Geezer @ 5/1

The obvious play looks to be DIAMOND GEEZER for the formidable combination of Olly Murphy and Sean Bowen.

His last venture to Scotland ended successfully, going off a well-backed 5/4 favourite and fending off the Lucinda Russell-trained runner, ridden by Michael Scudamore, to win for the first time.

He’s yet to win since, but has put in two decent performances at Warwick and Lingfield.

His latest run came over further, where he travelled well throughout from the rear, but when push came to shove there wasn’t much left, beginning to hang slightly and looking a bit tired in the closing stages.

He’s back down to a trip he’s familiar with, should strip fitter for that run and looks more than capable of winning this contest under more suitable conditions.

15:43 Ayr - Carcaci Castle @ 7/1

The Sandy Thompson-trained CARCACI CASTLE looked in good order last time out at Musselburgh when finishing second.

He’d spent a long period out of form prior to that, with his last win coming in June 2024 and little of note shown since.

That victory came off a mark of 117, and he’s since taken a sizeable drop in the handicap, running off 105 last time out.

The handicapper has left his mark unchanged, which gives him an excellent chance here, with him clearly well treated if able to run to that level again.

The yard is in good nick, with several of their runners performing well recently, and this looks like a good opportunity to strike with this experienced ten-year-old back on song.

18:00  Chelmsford - Dubai Magic @ 7/2

Four-year-old filly DUBAI MAGIC bids to follow up from her course-and-distance win three weeks ago. That success came in only her second run in classified stakes company, having been narrowly denied just six days earlier at Wolverhampton.

She’s clearly found her level and while this does look a more competitive race than her previous assignment, with several rivals bringing solid recent form, she appears slightly ahead of them on what she’s shown.

Hollie Doyle is booked, a notable positive, and her best form has come at Chelmsford, where she seems particularly well suited by the track. The expectation is that she can continue her upward trajectory and add another win here.
