Sunday Racing Tips: Kel Histoire can go all the way in the Limestone Lad

Naas scaled

The weather has taken a toll on the racing this weekend, with Fairyhouse and Fontwell both abandoning their meetings and conditions are set to be very testing in Ireland.

Naas kicks us off and they host an intriguing seven-race card, which features the Grade 3 Limestone Lad Hurdle, while Britain's sole fixture comes from Sedgefield. We have three strong fancies to follow at Naas on Sunday and they include a thoroughly unexposed Willie Mullins horse who has a massive chance in the big race of the day.

Sunday Racing Tips - January 25

  • 13:25 Naas - Kel Histoire @ 11/2
  • 14:25 Naas - King Kali @ 10/3

13:25 Naas - Kel Histoire @ 11/2

KEL HISTOIRE remains lightly raced and thoroughly unexposed over hurdles but there’s plenty to like about what we've seen so far. He won a maiden bumper for Alain Couetil on debut for previous connections and joined Willie Mullins off the back of that success.

Making a dream start over hurdles for his new yard, he was a comfortable winner of a Cork maiden hurdle in December 2024.

It was an impressive performance to win so well, despite the fact that his jumping was a little bit sketchy at times and there was definite room for improvement.

Connections opted for a step up in grade next time and he contested the Grade 2 Moscow Flyer Novice Hurdle. He finished second to stablemate Salvator Mundi that day and he has since gone on to win a Grade 1 at Aintree.

Things didn't go to plan at the Cheltenham Festival, but there's loads more to come from him and the drop in grade and trip could be massively beneficial.

14:25 Naas - King Kali @ 10/3

KING KALI clearly isn't the easiest to train, as he has been off the track for long periods over the years and is now very lightly raced for a 10-year-old. Sean Byrne's gelding managed to get off the mark in a 2m2f handicap at Listowel in September 2024.

He was then out for another 446 days, before running here over a shorter trip in December, where he was a more than respectable fourth.

Obviously he was entitled to improve for that, which proved to be the case because he returned to winning ways impressively last time.

A 7lb rise seems pretty fair and it's easy to make the case that further improvement can't be ruled out, despite the fact that he’s a 10-year-old.

15:25 Naas - Argento Boy @ 10/3

ARGENTO BOY was an impressive winner of a bumper at Fairyhouse on debut in January 2024, but he failed to fire in Grade 1s at Cheltenham and Punchestown.

This strong staying sort got off the mark over hurdles over just shy of three miles on heavy ground in February.

In fact, all of his best performances have come with cut in the ground so the testing underfoot conditions here will be to his liking.

Winning well over fences last time out, this Grade 3 looks like the next logical step and he should be bang in the mix.
