Championship Predictions: South Coast derby takes centre stage

We’ve got another jam-packed weekend of Championship action coming our way, after a wonderful midweek in which the top three, Coventry, Middlesbrough and Ipswich, all won.
It means we roll into gameweek 29 with the pressure hotting up at the top, while it is also hotting up at the top of our own predictions league. Find our Championship Predictions down below.

Derby 2-1 West Brom @ 9/1
Eric Ramsay saw his side get hammered 5-0 at home by Norwich City in midweek, and already alarm bells are ringing for WBA. They’ve gambled with this managerial change and it could backfire as they sit just three points above the drop zone. Meanwhile, Derby have won three of their last four as they push towards the play-offs - home win.
Nick: 2-0
Conor: 2-1
Middlesbrough 3-0 Preston @ 11/1
Middlesbrough are serious title contenders this season, and they’ve won back-to-back away games to start this three-game week. West Brom and Stoke have been beaten, making it three wins in a row for Kim Hellberg’s men, while Preston have lost both of their matches this week. Home win to nil.
Nick: 2-1
Conor: 3-1
Millwall 2-0 Charlton @ 7/1
A London derby comes our way on Saturday lunchtime, and although Millwall lost at Coventry in midweek, they did put in a strong showing. I think they are set to get back to winning ways against a Charlton outfit that has only picked up 11 points from 14 away games.
Nick: 1-1
Conor: 2-1
Leicester 0-0 Oxford @ 9/1
A late equaliser at Wrexham wasn’t enough to save the Leicester players from a chorus of boos at full-time, and the feeling around the club right now is pretty dreadful. Defeat here could spell the end for Marti Cifuentes, as Matt Bloomfield’s new side sit second-bottom. They have recorded consecutive 0-0 draws this week, and I like the odds of it happening again.

Bristol City 3-0 Sheff Wed @ 7/1
Sheffield Wednesday are barely competitive this season, and I’ll back them to lose every single week. Tired legs could lead to a big loss at Ashton Gate.
Nick: 4-0
Conor: 2-0
Hull 3-2 Swansea @ 28/1
The most entertaining team in the Championship? Hull have won three of their last four and hammered Preston 3-0 in midweek. Swansea beat Blackburn 3-1 and look strong at home under Vitor Matos, while Zan Vipotnik is now the league’s top scorer with 13. Should be plenty of goals in this one.
Nick: 3-1
Conor: 2-1
QPR 0-0 Wrexham @ 8/1
Wrexham have underwhelmed this week, picking up just one point from two games. They should have beaten Leicester but conceded late on, and a trip to Loftus Road is never easy. QPR’s attacking talent isn’t clicking right now, and they’ve drawn their last two 0-0, so once again I’m backing a competitive stalemate.
Nick: 2-2
Conor: 1-1
Blackburn 1-1 Watford @ 5/1
Blackburn are winless in six and have dropped into the bottom three this week, while Watford disappointed with a home draw against Portsmouth. I think Javi Gracia’s men have dropped off slightly, and Blackburn are probably good for another draw.
Nick: 1-2
Conor: 1-2

Birmingham 2-1 Stoke @ 15/2
Birmingham were made to sweat as they edged past Sheffield Wednesday in midweek, but they are a far better side at home, with the fifth-best home record in the division. Stoke lost to Boro at home in a competitive game, and are now without Gavin Bazunu for six weeks, so I’ll back them to lose this one 2-1 as well.
Nick: 3-1
Conor: 2-1
Sheff Utd 1-2 Ipswich @ 8/1
Ipswich can’t stop winning, and Sheffield United have slipped up massively this week with two consecutive defeats. This is the toughest test in the Championship right now, and I’ll still place my faith in Ipswich to get promoted. Four wins in a row could become five at Bramall Lane.
Nick: 2-1
Conor: 1-2
Portsmouth 1-1 Southampton @ 11/2
The South Coast derby comes our way on Sunday, and after a dreadful 0-0 draw at the start of the season, we will hope for more drama this time around. Pompey are in relegation danger, while Saints ended their winless run with success over Sheff Utd. I’m on the fence.
Nick: 2-2
Conor: 0-0
Norwich 2-2 Coventry @ 10/1
A truly intriguing clash on Monday night sees in-form Norwich host league leaders Coventry. The Sky Blues have been pushed all the way in their last two home games, but have taken maximum points, while Norwich have won four of their last five and hammered West Brom 5-0 last time out. I’m expecting goals, and I’ll back Norwich to take a point.
Nick: 1-3
Conor: 2-3
