Swansea vs Birmingham Prediction: More away misery for Blues?

Birmingham City’s dreadful away form is the only thing that’s stopping them from climbing the table this season, and they will look to put that right as they travel to South Wales to face Swansea City in the Championship’s late-televised game (17:30 GMT, Sky Sports Main Event).

Team News
Swansea boss Vitor Matos remains without Adam Idah and Liam Cullen, with the duo suffering muscle injuries. Ben Cabango and Cameron Burgess will resume their centre-back partnership in front of Lawrence Vigouroux, and Zan Vipotnik will lead the line as he hunts for more goals.
Meanwhile, Chris Davies is dealing with a thin squad right now. Christoph Klarer and Phil Neumann are the only fit centre-backs so will start, while after releasing Keshi Anderson, Lewis Koumas and Patrick Roberts are the only fit wingers.
Demarai Gray remains out along with Ethan Laird through injury, while striker Lyndon Dykes has now been sold to Charlton Athletic. Marvin Ducksch will lead the line with Jay Stansfield in the number 10 role, while new left-back Kai Wagner showed his quality in the 3-2 win over Coventry.
Swansea vs Birmingham Predicted Lineups
- Swansea - Vigouroux; Galbraith, Cabango, Burgess, Tymon; Fulton, Franco, Widell, Pereira, Eom; Vipotnik
- Birmingham - Beadle; Iwata, Klarer, Robinson, Wagner; Doyle, Paik; Roberts, Stansfield, Koumas; Ducksch
Swansea have been priced at 7/4 to win this game, while Birmingham are the 13/8 favourites, giving them an implied win probability of 38%. A draw is 11/5, over 2.5 goals is 11/10 and BTTS is 4/5.
Vipotnik is the favourite to score first at 9/2 while Stansfield is 5/1.
Swansea vs Birmingham Stats
- Swansea have won their last four home league games
- Birmingham have picked up just eight points from 13 away games
Swansea to win @ 7/4
If this game was going to be played at a neutral venue, I would be happy to back Birmingham to win. However, I cannot ignore their awful away form, and the fact that Swansea have been strong at home since Matos took charge.
Birmingham have picked up just eight points from 13 away matches, with only Sheffield Wednesday and Portsmouth (both seven), picking up fewer points on the road. That is just dreadful for a team that has only lost one game at St Andrew’s by comparison. Meanwhile, Swansea have won four league games on the bounce in front of their own fans, and I think ultimately that form will prove to be enough. Just.

Correct score - Swansea 1-0 Birmingham @ 7/1
Swansea’s winning run at home has seen them win four league games in a row, and in three of those they have kept clean sheets. Their away form is patchy to say the least and they did draw 2-2 at home with West Brom last time out in the FA Cup before losing on penalties, but the evidence shows us that they don’t concede many at home under Matos.
Birmingham have lost their last two league games on the road 3-0, failing to score in both, so I can see them drawing another blank in Wales.
