Football Bet of the Day: Rangers man backed for more goals

There’s a midweek round of Premier League fixtures coming our way, but on Tuesday I’m looking north of the border.
Rangers secured a vital away win at Celtic over the weekend, and now Danny Rohl’s men return for a home clash against Aberdeen (20:00 GMT, Sky Sports Football). Below you can find Tuesday’s Football Bet of the Day.
Football Bet of the Day - Tuesday, January 6
- Youssef Chermiti to score anytime @ 8/5
*Odds correct at time of publication
The widest smile in Glasgow on Saturday belonged to Rangers striker Youssef Chermiti, after the former Everton forward bagged a brace at Celtic Park. Chermiti had a slow start to life at Ibrox, often coming off the bench with little impact after his £8m move from Merseyside.
However, Rohl has put his trust in the young striker and he’s started four of the last five games, with Rangers winning each of those four. In the one game he didn’t start - away at league leaders Hearts, he came on to score in injury time - and has established himself as the first-choice number nine.
Supported by Djeidi Gassama and Mikey Moore, this young and vibrant front three caused all sorts of problems for Celtic, as Chermiti bagged twice in the 3-1 win. I think Rangers should certainly fancy their chances of recording another home win against Aberdeen, and they are the heavy favourites at 4/7 to secure all three points.
Football Bet of the Day Stats
- Youssef Chermiti joined Rangers for £8m from Everton in the summer
- He scored twice last time out vs Celtic
- Aberdeen have sacked Jimmy Thelin and are currently managerless
Aberdeen are in woeful form, having lost four of their last five games in all competition, and they’ve failed to score in their last two outings. Manager Jimmy Thelin has been sacked as a result and I think Rangers should blow them away, but for the Football Bet of the Day I’m looking for value, and think it lies in backing Chermiti to find the net.
As with most strikers, he clearly thrives on confidence, and scoring twice at Celtic Park is some way to endear yourself to the Rangers faithful. He now has three goals in his last four games, and one assist to boot, as his relationship with the wingers seems to be improving week on week.
With Aberdeen currently managerless, I’d be surprised to see a display of defensive resoluteness and instead think they may lose their way at Ibrox. Chermiti has taken some time to get used to British football, but he looks to have finally made his mark in Scotland. I’m happy to back him to follow up his Old Firm brace with at least one more on home soil.
