Horse Racing Tips: Scorpio can rise to the top at Newbury

The busy Christmas period continues to provide a wealth of entertainment and there are no fewer than six meetings taking place across Britain and Ireland on Monday.

There are plenty of races to go through and we have three horse racing tips for across the afternoon. These include a very lightly-raced Olly Murphy runner who could still be well ahead of the handicapper.

14:10 Doncaster - Paggane @ 5/2

Doncaster’s feature race is the £75,000 Yorkshire Silver Vase Mares' Chase and Willie Mullins has sent over two runners. It's a former Mullins horse who could be the one to come out on top however, as PAGGANE has been in excellent form since joining Faye Bramley.

Returning from a break over hurdle at Chepstow in October, she ran a cracker to finish second in the Silver Trophy and was only beaten by a neck. The daughter of Muhaarar went back over fences in a Listed contest at Carlisle after that and went on to score impressively.

Telepathique is no mug herself and she had no answer to Bramley’s mare as Paggane pulled nine-and-a-half lengths clear at the line. It was a similar story when stepping back up to three miles at Market Rasen and she never even came off the bridle.

This will be a much tougher test, but she's in the form of her life at the moment and the two Mullins representatives will definitely have their hands full.

15:15 Kelso - Baratablet @ 4/7

Nicky Richards is a trainer to watch when in good form and he certainly is at the moment.

He’s operating at a very healthy strike-rate in the last fortnight and landed an across the card double on Boxing Day, with BARATABLET well set to add to his tally of winners.

The five-year-old has won three of his five starts over hurdles so far and is 2/3 in handicap company. Richards' gelding was third in a competitive novice handicap at Ayr in the spring and managed to get his head in front at Perth after that.

There was lots to like about his comfortable four-length success on seasonal debut at Newcastle earlier this month and a 7lb rise might not be enough to stop him.
