Burkina Faso to beat Equatorial Guinea
Burkina Faso have a solid record at the Africa Cup of Nations in recent years. Indeed, they were runners-up to Nigeria in 2013, before finishing third in 2017 and fourth in 2021.
The nation reached the last 16 stage in 2023, losing to Mali, but they are well-equipped to go further this time around.
Burkina Faso have won five of their last six matches, compared to Equatorial Guinea, who have won two of their previous five games.
These nations met at the 2015 edition, with the game finishing 0-0. Expect a winner this time around.
Algeria -1 handicap against Sudan
Algeria won this tournament back in 2019, but haven’t made it out of the group stage in their previous two finals appearances.
Nevertheless, having secured qualification for the 2026 World Cup, Algeria will be keen on making a deep run in Morocco.
Led by veteran Riyad Mahrez, their first match against Sudan represents an ideal opportunity to get three points on the board.
The two nations have not met at this tournament before, but Algeria look good enough to get off to a strong start in a bid for a third continental crown.

Ivory Coast -1 handicap against Mozambique
After qualifying for the knockout stages as just the fourth-best third place team, it looked as though Ivory Coast wouldn’t go much further.
However, the Elephants went on to win the tournament, beating Nigeria 2-1 in the final, just weeks after sacking their coach during the group stages.
They look in a much better position this time around, especially after securing qualification for the 2026 World Cup.
Ivory Coast won their last meeting against Mozambique 3-0 back in 2021 and will be looking to match or better that result on Christmas Eve.
Mozambique have played just 15 matches at AFCON finals, winning zero and that run will likely continue on Wednesday.
Cameroon to beat Gabon
Cameroon won this competition as recently as 2017, but they failed to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
As such, the pressure is on to produce a solid showing in Morocco as they open up their campaign against Gabon.
Cameroon have won three of the previous five matches between the nations, with Gabon’s only win coming back in 2010 at this very competition.
With plenty to prove over the coming weeks, expect Cameroon to begin their campaign by defeating Gabon in Agadir.
