Lucky 15 Tips: Better Times Ahead primed for Porterstown challenge

A trio of Sunday afternoon meetings over jumps makes up the quota of racing for this week. In Britain, they will race at Carlisle and Leicester, while there is a stellar Irish offering from Fairyhouse, where no less than six of their eight races come at Graded/Listed level, including the Grade 1 Hatton's Grace Hurdle (14:36).

Below are my Lucky 15 Tips for Sunday's racing action across Britain and Ireland on the final afternoon of November.

13:05 Fairyhouse - Better Times Ahead @ 4/1

The Listed Porterstown Handicap Chase at Fairyhouse is set to be run over a three-and-three-quarter-mile trip and will test the stamina of the 15-strong field.

BETTER TIMES AHEAD runs here for Robert Tyner in the JP McManus silks with Mark Walsh on board.

The Walk In The Park gelding has some excellent efforts over fences, finishing second to the top stayers Macdermott here and at Minella Crooner at Punchestown in the spring of 2024 over shorter distances.

He didn't show his best in three runs back in the spring, but recently returned to action with a win over hurdles at this venue over 3m, exploiting a lower mark in that sphere.

He's on a fair mark now, back chasing and, if his stamina holds up, he looks a key player with that recent win under his belt.

13:35 Fairyhouse - Port Authority @ 8/1

Jack Kennedy prefers course maiden winner Koktail Brut over PORT AUTHORITY, but the latter could be the one to give Gordon Elliott a fifth win in 11 years in the Royal Bond Novice Hurdle.

The Martinborough gelding was impressive when landing his only start in a point-to-point at Borris House in March, and he made short work of his hurdling debut at Naas (2m, soft to heavy) this month as Galway bumper winner Murat had no answers.

The £200k purchase is open to progress and, while his stablemate Koktail Brut and the Willie Mullins-trained Love Me Tender are major dangers, Sam Ewing's partner looks underestimated in the market.

14:15 Carlisle - Saligo Bay @ 3/1

Trainer Sam England has SALIGO BAY in a lovely vein of form, the New Bay gelding having won four of his last five starts on the Flat and over hurdles since September.

His two most recent victories have come at Wetherby (2m, good/soft) and, while he now has a career-high mark of 117 to defy, he's clearly thriving at the moment, and Richie McLernon's partner may well prove equal to it.

14:36 Fairyhouse - Teahupoo @ 10/11

TEAHUPOO missed out on a third Hatton's Grace win 12 months ago, his duel with Lossiemouth turning into a bit of a speed-test that this strong stayer was never going to win.

Kennedy is back on board here and should ensure this tough three-miler has the race run to suit.

The 2m4f trip is less than optimal, but Elliott's charge goes so well fresh, and there are major doubts over his main rivals, Ballyburn and Mystical Power, following their tame campaigns last time around.
