Horse Racing Tips: Shader should prove too strong at Southwell

Jumps racing holds sway across the UK and Ireland on Friday, with five meetings taking place across the afternoon and into the evening.

Among our horse racing tips for the day is one for trainer Karl Burke who seeks to defend his good record of two wins from four starts on the all-weather.

12:45 Newbury - Mambonumberfive @ 13/8

Look out for MAMBONUMBERFIVE at Newbury as the Ben Pauling-trained gelding looks set to resume his progress over fences.

He was last seen earlier this month winning at Aintree on his chase debut. He jumped well that day and he looked comfortable tackling the bigger obstacles.

Additionally, he brings the best form achieved over hurdles to this race, as last season he won a Grade 2 in that sphere at Kempton and none of his rivals can match that.

This son of Born To Sea looks set to have a big future over fences and he should be able to prove too tough to peg back here.

A former Southwell winner, John and Thady Gosden's SHADER, can thrive on his return to the Nottinghamshire track.

Earlier this month, this son of Shamardal scored comfortably in a Listed contest at Kempton. He stretched out inside the final two furlongs and scored comfortably by nine lengths.

That form is solid, as the second-placed finisher, West Wind Blows, finished second in the Group 1 Caulfield Cup in Australia in October.

With only five career starts, the Gosdens' gelding is still unexposed and there is no limit to his potential.

His partner in the saddle, Colin Keane, is in excellent form of late and he should be able to resume winning ways here.

A Listed race winner on the all-weather at Lingfield last February, MARSHMAN, can return to the winner's enclosure here.

This son of Harry Angel hasn't been since a disappointing effort in York in May, but his five runs before that were much more positive; he won twice and placed a further three times.

Of those five runs, his best effort came when he finished a close third behind his stable-mate Spycatcher in March, who has since won a Group 3.

There should be no concern about coming here off a break, as he has won twice and finished second once after a break, so he clearly goes well when he is fresh.

He should be prominent throughout the race and challenge inside the final 110yds and prove too tough to peg back.
