Arsenal vs Tottenham Hotspur Prediction: Backing the draw offers value

Arsenal’s title bid took the slightest derailment before the international break, now they must get on the right track with Manchester City looking to reel them in. Sunday sees the latest edition of the North London derby taking place at the Emirates – a ground that does not serve Tottenham all that well.

However, Tottenham have served better on the road than they have at home this season and they will look to take advantage of an Arsenal backline that has been knocked about during the November hiatus. Team News 

Although international football has offered plenty of golden moments in the past week or so, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is unlikely to have the same opinion. Already grumpy after the Gunners were held by Sunderland before the break, his mood worsening thanks to injury to key personnel.

No more key than that of Brazilian defender Gabriel and although he may have been playing for his country in the familiar location of the Emirates, there are no home comforts now that he has been ruled out for at least a month. His absence is a definite, there are also questions marks surrounding fellow defender Ricardo Calafiori.

As for visitors Tottenham, injuries are nothing new as far as manager Thomas Frank is concerned. Already an eye-watering length in terms of absentees, it could be even longer if the pair of Pape Sarr and Mohammed Kudus fail late fitness tests before Sunday.

Should both the Senegalese and the Ghanian midfielders be ruled out for the short trip to the Emirates, the number of unavailable of first team players could be as high as 12. It is getting to the point that if you are fit, you will be getting Premier League minutes for Spurs this weekend.

Arsenal are priced as overwhelming favourites at 2/5 to win this game, with Tottenham priced as the underdogs at 15/2. That gives the home team an implied win probability of 71.4% while a draw can be backed at 18/5.

The second-best home record playing host to the second-best away record. Something has to give on Sunday. Or does it? Arsenal’s defence weakened considerably due to the absence of Gabriel, Thomas Frank arguably delighted he is not working at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this weekend.

Spurs are a much better outfit on the road than they are in front of their own support and with this having an element of free hit attached to it due to the odds involved, I think the draw does offer a decent bit of value for those who like to bet against the formbook.

For that reason, there will be a certain irony if Eze does find the net on Sunday.
