Horse Racing Tips: Black can gain revenge

Kempton park racecourse

A total of five meetings are scheduled to take place across Britain and Ireland on Wednesday, four on the flat and one over jumps. First off is the solitary jumps card from Chepstow at 12.30, closely followed by Nottingham (12.40), Musselburgh (12.53), Dundalk (13:45) and Kempton (14:20).

Among our fancies is one for in-form trainer Tom Lacey, whose charge should appreciate the step up to 2m7f in the conditional jockeys’ handicap chase at Chepstow.

13:30 Chepstow - Let’s Sail Away @ 5/2

The Tom Lacey-trained LET’S SAIL AWAY found things happening a bit too quickly for him when a beaten favourite over 2m6f at Kelso, so the extra furlong he gets for this race at Chepstow on this more galloping and stamina demanding track should suit.

The six-year-old has taken well to fences this season, finishing runner-up over 2m4f at Uttoxeter in July and at Worcester the following month, prior to keeping on for a never-nearer third at the Borders course in a first-time visor in September.

That visor is replaced by his usual cheekpieces on this occasion and this looks like a good opportunity for him to open his account.

Cameron Iles takes off a valuable 3lb for a yard that’s had two winners and multiple places from only eight runners over the past fortnight.

17:00 Kempton - Warrior Mode @ 9/1

Sir Mark Prescott’s lightly raced WARRIOR MODE is of interest in a competitive 7f handicap at Kempton, with the three-year-old a possible improver on his second run back after wind surgery.

The son of Night Of Thunder won on his debut over this trip at Wolverhampton in March and went close under a penalty over the same course-and-distance next time, having raced rather keenly.

He wasn’t quite as good at Newcastle subsequently, fading late on into third, but he underwent a breathing operation soon afterwards, which excuses that performance.

He appeared not to stay a mile at Haydock last time, but he still ran to a Racing Post Rating of 80 and looks primed to better that this time, now back at 7f.

18:30 Kempton - Jet Black @ 2/1

The finale at Kempton is probably a bit more than a match between the hat-trick seeking Veraison and JET BLACK, who chased him home over this course-and-distance last month.

But that pair do have the strongest credentials and Andrew Balding’s Jet Black looks capable of turning the tables on more favourable terms.

Jet Black meets Dr Richard Newland and Jamie Insole’s progressive three-year-old on 6lb better terms, which should give him the edge given he got within three-quarters of a length of that rival here nine days earlier.

He’s run to Racing Post Ratings of 75 on three of his last four outings, so an official mark of 70 should be well within his capabilities.
