Nap of the day generic

There are four cards in Britain and Ireland for punters to peruse on Sunday and we have a host of interesting action.

Grade 1 winner Handstands is the star attraction in the Colin Parker Memorial Intermediate Chase (14:37) at Carlisle.

He may yet make up into one of the best chasers in Britain for Ben Pauling, while over in Ireland we have the Cork Grand National (15:20) to solve and a pair of Pattern races at the Curragh with the Flat turf season drawing to a close there.

The meeting at Carlisle is where we have focused our attention, though, as there appears to be a shaky short-priced favourite in the Listed Houghton Mares’ Chase (13:32).

Telepathique is the right market leader in the Houghton Mares’ Chase at Carlisle as she signed off her season in brilliant style with an easy Listed win at Huntingdon over the smart Brides Hill, who was giving her 6lb.

However, there may be reasons to take on Telepathique at Carlisle. Brides Hill is now rated 5lb lower than she was that day after disappointing at Punchestown and she was seemingly using that run as a stepping stone to the spring festivals.

Telepathique’s trainer Lucy Wadham landed this race last year with Terresita, but there is a bit more depth to this running, and she may be rusty first time out under a 4lb penalty, with bigger targets than this surely in mind.

You are getting a much better price about Paggane and she catches the eye for Faye Bramley, who has made a bright start to her training career across both codes.

Paggane ran a superb race on her return from an 85-day break in the Silver Trophy at Chepstow last month, going down by a neck at massive odds of 50-1 in that competitive affair.

Fast Racing Results

Despite the fact the six-year-old raced 12 times for Willie Mullins over hurdles, she bettered her best hurdles Racing Post Rating for the master trainer by 11lb on her first run in that sphere for Bramley.

That was a commendable training performance, and given Paggane brings a higher chase rating to the table, she presents a real threat to Telepathique with race fitness on her side.

There isn’t much in this with Paggane receiving 4lb from Telepathique and the booking of the brilliant Harry Cobden can only be a positive with a view to her chance.

Cobden is one from one when teaming up with Bramley and a breakthrough first big-race victory for the burgeoning trainer awaits at Carlisle.

Of the others, Grand National Trial winner Apple Away surely needs much further to show her best and is likely to need this comeback outing, while the Gordon Elliott-trained Speculatrix is yet to prove herself against mares who are rated this high.
