Match Preview:

Monday night football in La Liga comes from the Estadio La Cartuja this week. Real Betis have made a strong start to life in their temporary home, and they'll fancy their chances of upsetting Atlético Madrid.

There was a period around a year ago when it felt like Manuel Pellegrini's long reign at the Andalusian club was in danger of petering out. However, the 72-year-old deserves great credit for sparking some life into this side once more, and they've had a really strong 2025 overall.

Some good work on the recruitment front has made the Chilean's life a bit easier. Antony's arrival, initially on loan from Manchester United in January, has been a big factor in their recent success. The Brazilian looked sharp and hungry from day one in Spain, and he has settled quickly back into the team after finally completing a permanent transfer on deadline day at the end of the summer window.

It was a brace from Antony, which salvaged a point for Betis in a 2-2 draw at Villarreal last weekend. With Athletic Club faltering badly, those two teams look the most likely candidates for fourth place this term, with Champions League qualification starting to look like a realistic objective for Los Verdiblancos.

They rotated heavily and weren't particularly impressive in their most recent match, but put in a solid defensive display in a 0-0 draw at Genk in the Europa League on Thursday. Pellegrini's side remain unbeaten in that competition, and have suffered just one defeat in 12 matches overall this term.

That highlights the challenge that awaits an Atlético Madrid side that lost this fixture 1-0 exactly 12 months ago. That result, coming four days after a Champions League home defeat to Lille, proved to be the low point in their campaign, and was immediately followed by a club-record 15-match winning streak.

One year on, there are certainly parallels, with Diego Simeone struggling to settle on his preferred starting lineup following a busy summer in the transfer market. They also head into this match following a bruising night in Europe, this time in the form of a 4-0 loss to Arsenal.

There was relatively little to choose between the teams for 57 minutes at the Emirates last Tuesday, but the Gunners then proceeded to fire in four goals in the space of 13 minutes, with Atleti exposed time and time again from set-piece situations.

The most baffling part of their season to date has been their inability to perform away from home. While Los Rojiblancos have started to click and score quite freely at the Estadio Metropolitano, they continue to badly misfire on the road.

Atlético are yet to win in six competitive away fixtures this season. Dropped points on their travels against Espanyol, Alavés, Mallorca and Celta Vigo in La Liga have already done considerable damage to their chances of competing with Real Madrid and Barcelona for the Spanish title.

Team News:

Betis would have been grateful for the extra day of rest following their Europa League trip to Belgium. Pellegrini should go as strong as possible on Monday night, with playmaker Isco, who is yet to feature this season as he recovers from a broken ankle, their only injury absentee.

Ex-Betis midfielder Johnny Cardoso is the only injury doubt for the visitors, who may make light changes to the side that was defeated in North London.

Álex Baena is the player who perhaps stands the best chance of a recall, with his return potentially meaning a shift to a 4-2-3-1 system. Thiago Almada and Antoine Griezmann are also options should Simeone want some more creativity.

Real Betis vs Atlético Madrid Predicted Lineups

  • Real Betis: Valles, Ruibal, Bartra, Gomez, Rodriguez, Altmira, Lo Celso, Deossa, Antony, Riguelme, Bakambu
  • Atlético Madrid: Oblak, Llorente, Le Normand, Gimenez, Hancko, Simeone, Barrios, Koke, Gonzalez, Sorloth, Alvarez

Match Odds:

Atlético Madrid are priced at 6/5 to claim their first away victory of the season on Monday night. Real Betis are available at 11/5, while you can back the Draw at 5/2.

If you're expecting goals in this game, Both teams to score is priced at 8/13, while you can back Over 2.5 goals at 4/5. The hosts are on offer at 6/4 to score over 1.5 goals across the 90 minutes.

Alternatively, you can back the visitors to keep a clean sheet at 11/5. Atlético are on offer at 3/1 to win the game to nil, while Simeone's side are priced at 2/1 to score in both halves.

With doubts over whether Alexander Sørloth will start, Julián Alvarez is the most likely goal threat for the visitors. You can back the Argentina international to score first at 4/1, while he's available at 7/5 to score anytime.

Cucho Hernández should rotate back in to lead the line for the hosts. He's available at 6/1 to score first and 2/1 to score anytime. You can back Antony to get on the scoresheet at 13/5, while on the opposite flank Ez Abde should also ask questions, and he's also available at 13/5 to score anytime.

Real Betis vs Atlético Madrid Stats

  • Early season top-of-the-table clash with both sides in European spots heading into the weekend.
  • Atletico have a 100% BTTS record away from home in La Liga this season.
  • Over 2.5 Goals is unlikely looking at the stats with Betis at 56% and Atletico 33%

Bet 1 - Atlético Madrid to score under 1.5 goals @ 8/11

Given their failure to win on the road, Atleti do little to justify their status as such clear favourites. They're not creating anywhere near enough opportunities away from home, with an xG average of under 1.0 on their travels highlighting their problems.

Betis are defending fairly well. To compensate for the absence of Isco, Pellegrini has often opted for a more combative midfield, with their main attacking threat coming from out wide. We may see a similar approach to this fixture from the hosts, and I can see them keeping it relatively tight. Given that, I'm backing Atlético Madrid to score under 1.5 goals at 8/11.

Bet 2 - Real Betis to score over 0.5 goals & Antony 1+ shots on target @ 11/10

Prior to their 0-0 draw against Genk on Thursday, Real Betis had scored in 32 consecutive matches. That run started following a 1-0 defeat to Gent in February, while you have to go back to January for the last time the Andalusians failed to score against Spanish opposition.

The signing of Antony has certainly been a major reason for their ability to break down virtually every opponent they've faced in 2025. The Brazilian is averaging a shot every 24 minutes since he returned to the club on a permanent basis. He was also linked strongly with a move to Atleti in the summer, and he may come back to haunt the team he might have joined.

I'm expecting the hosts to be really competitive and I'm using the Bet Builder to back Real Betis to score over 0.5 goals and Antony to have one or more shots on target at 11/10.
