Saturday racing tips 2

Following another successful return for this column, courtesy of 7/2 and 4/1 winners, I'm hoping to keep up the momentum on another busy Saturday featuring a good mix of flat and jumps action.

After studying the various cards, here are my Saturday racing tips for your consideration.

Saturday Racing Tips - October 11, 2025

  • 14:00 Chepstow - The Kemble Brewery @ 15/8
  • 15:00 Newmarket - Zavateri @ 7/2
  • 16:00 Chepstow - Narragansett each-way @ 11/1

14:00 Chepstow - The Kemble Brewery @ 15/8

Kim Bailey & Mat Nicholls tend to make a quick start to the season - and, true to form, the pair have enjoyed a couple of winners from eight runners (25% strike rate) in the past fortnight.

That bodes well for THE KEMBLE BREWERY, who's a confident pick for this novices' handicap chase over two miles.

The six-year-old son of Blue Bresil was a useful bumper horse and bar a no-show in a Grade 3 handicap at Sandown in March, his hurdling form is decent too.

Beating Jurancon, who went on to win three of his next four starts, and going down by just two lengths to Ben Pauling's Meetbythesea, a close third in the same race in Berkshire, giving away 11lbs leads me to believe his current mark of 129 is lenient. Especially if he improves for the bigger obstacles, which is highly-possible given connections who seems to excel with chasers.

I would have liked a bit more cut in the ground, but I don't think it's a major issue and I think he's a cracking bet to kickstart our Saturday.

15:00 Newmarket - Zavateri @ 7/2

The big race of the day is the Dewhurst Stakes - a Group 1 over seven furlongs featuring some of the best two-year-olds around. Those with Betfred 2000 Guineas aspirations for next season.

You could make a case for the majority of the nine runners, but I'm sticking with the unbeaten ZAVATERI.

After winning on debut at Salisbury and then a couple of Group 2s here at Newmarket and Goodwood, Eve Johnson Houghton described the son of Without Parole as 'probably' the best horse she's ever trained.

He went even further in justifying that reputation by going on to land the Vincent O'Brien National Stakes at the highest level, beating the reopposing Gstaad and Italy for Aidan O'Brien.

Some think Royal Ascot hero Gstaad was unlucky at the Curragh, but I disagree. I think the selection won fair and square, and fancy him to do so again.

Distant Storm was seriously impressive last time out but his form doesn't yet hold up to that of Zavateri, who deserves to be favourite in my book.

16:00 Chepstow - Narragansett each-way @ 11/1

Finally, an each-way selection - NARRAGANSETT in the 'Four Years Old' Hurdle at Chepstow. Betfred are paying 4 places instead of 3 at 1/5 the odds for this one.

I first became aware of this Inns Of Court gelding when he gave Harry Derham's odds-on shot Viyanni, who has a good piece of form behind Triumph Hurdle runner-up Lulamba, a race at Market Rasen last December.

I fancied him strongly at Wetherby in the new year but he bumped into the 122-rated Melon for Oliver Greenall & Josh Guerriero. In behind was Bust A Move, who obliged in a handicap at Newcastle next time out off a mark of 116.

He beat trees at Plumpton in February, before winning a Class 3 handicap at Sandown in March off 115. The aforementioned Melon could only manage fourth this time.

Lucky Bere back in third got within a length of Aviemore, who's favourite for Saturday's contest, in receipt of just two pounds the previous month. Given the gap between him and the selection was six-and-a-half lengths, and the weight concession was 10lbs, that reads very well in our favour.

Narragansett should be race-fit having enjoyed a spin on the flat last month and he rates an attractive proposition in this competitive affair.
