Horse Racing Tips: Bear warrants another chance

There’s both Flat and Jumps action to look forward to on Wednesday, a total of five meetings across Britain and Ireland, four of which are in the afternoon.

A pair of Flat cards kick off proceedings, Nottingham (13:28) followed by Navan (13:52) before the two National Hunt fixtures at Ludlow (14:05) and Sedgefield (14:15). Kempton stages a bumper nine-race card under the lights in the evening.

Amongst our Wednesday fancies is one for trainer Adrian McGuinness, who looks particularly well handicapped judging on the promise he showed earlier in the year.

14:52 Navan - One Cool Bear @ 33/1

Form figures of 06000 for the Adrian McGuinness-trained ONE COOL BEAR are hardly inspiring and he offered very little when finishing out the back over 7f at Down Royal last month.

However, the Kodi Bear gelding was a real eyecatcher when sixth in a warm maiden at Fairyhouse earlier this year and a return to anything like that form would give him outstanding claims off his newly reduced mark of 61.

Sent-off at odds of 125/1 in the race in question over 6f in July, he travelled kindly in rear, but was short of room on a couple of occasions in the final 2f and had to be switched both right and left as a result.

He kept on nicely once in the clear, though was considerately handled and his effort could easily be upgraded. He was beaten a little over five lengths and that reads very well now with the winner now rated 101, the second 93 and third 82.

He reverts to 6f on Wednesday and represents some decent each-way value.

14:58 Nottingham - Sea The Power @ 5/2

There was much to like about the all-the-way win of SEA THE POWER at Ayr last month and there should be improvement to come from the son of Sea The Stars now that he tackles 1m2f on his handicap debut.

The selection has progressed with each of his three starts so far, improving markedly for the step up to a mile at the Scottish track.

He ran to a Racing Post Rating of 85 when defeating the odds-on Mr Colonel on that occasion and looks to have been underestimated by the official handicapper, who has handed him an opening mark of only 80.

He was well suited by the ease underfoot at Ayr and should get similar conditions on Wednesday.

20:10 Kempton - Knight Of India @ 5/1

The concluding 7f handicap at Kempton has a competitive look to it, but Brian Toomey’s handicap debutant KNIGHT OF INDIA is open to more improvement than most and is worth siding with.

The son of Dark Angel has been comfortably held in his three starts to date, though he’s not been devoid of promise and ran his best race over this course-and-distance last time when finishing fourth of the 11 runners.

He was beaten a total of 12 lengths on that occasion, but he’d been up with the leaders for a long way and fared much better than the market expected, having been sent-off at odds of 66/1.

That run earned him a Racing Post Rating of 56, so there’s every chance he might have a bit in hand off this opening official figure of 53.
