Genoa vs Lazio Prediction: Bore draw on the cards?

Genoa and Lazio have made sluggish starts to the 2025/26 season, and both will be targeting wins to get their season up and running as they meet on Monday night (19:45, live on Betfred).

Team News

Patrick Vieira will serve a touchline ban after he made comments about the officials after their defeat to Bologna, but he should bring back several regular starts after they beat Empoli in the Coppa Italia on Thursday. 

Former Arsenal youngster Brooke Norton-Cuffy should return at right-back to play alongside Leo Ostigard - who looks set to return from a minor injury. Johan Vasquez and Aaron Caricol should make up the settled back four, while elsewhere Jean Onana is out and Junior Messias is a doubt.

The derby defeat to Roma came at quite a cost to Lazio, as both Matteo Guendouzi and Reda Belahyane were sent off. It means Mauricio Sarri will have to come up with a temporary fix in midfield with Fisayo Dele-Bashiru and Nicolo Rovella both coming off with injuries.

At best guess, and it is a guess, we could see Danilo Cataldi partnered with Tomas Basic, with Boulaye Dia also brought into the central area of the pitch. Pedro should start out wide, with Tety Castellanos set to lead the line again.

Genoa are 21/10 to win this game, while Lazio are the slight favourites at 6/4. That gives the visitors an implied win probability of 40%, while a draw can be backed at 2/1.

Over 2.5 goals is 11/8, BTTS is 1/1 and Castellanos is the favourite to score first at 9/2 - while Betfred also have plenty of Price Boosts on offer for this match.

This probably isn’t going to be a great game of football. Genoa are winless in Serie A, having drawn twice and lost twice, scoring just two goals in the process. They alleviated those struggles with a cup win over Empoli but have still been a poor attacking team this season. 

In fact, they sit 19th for xG per 90 in Serie A, with only Cremonese posing less threat that they have this term. Lazio sit 11th in the xG table, but thye’ve lost three of their four Serie A matches without scoring, losing the last two by one goal to nil. When you add in the suspended midfielders, you have to feel that the quality may not be at its highest on Monday night, so under 2.5 goals is the way to go.

I can’t separate these two right now. Sarri’s second spell at Lazio has not gone well so far, with the unexpected transfer embargo not giving him the best platform to build from. The season has started with somewhat of a hangover it appears, with three defeats out of four showing just how poor they have been at both ends. 

If they do lose four out of five, Sarri will have had the worst start to a season of any Lazio manager ever, so avoiding defeat here has to be the priority. Genoa will want more out of their goalless striker Lorenzo Colombo, but they’ve drawn two league games so far and lost the other two by just one goal. Genoa haven’t beaten Lazio at home since 2019, but they should be able to put in a competitive display and I think the draw offers the best value, given I’m not convinced by either outfit at this present moment in time.
