Tottenham Hotspur vs Doncaster Prediction: Big Spurs win expected

Tottenham Hotspur have won twice and drawn once since the first international break of the season, coming back from two goals down to draw at Brighton last time out. Next up, they face a home Carabao Cup tie against League 1 side Doncaster Rovers (19:45, Sky Sports+).

Changes ahoy? Thomas Frank is likely to use this game to take a look at several of his fringe players, with Antonin Kinsky set to be given the nod in goal. Kevin Danso should come into the heart of the defence, with Archie Gray and Djed Spence also in line for some minutes having been used off the bench against Brighton. 

Pape Matar Sarr and Dane Scarlett should also feature as Frank rotates, Mathys Tel needs minutes while there is positive news surrounding Randal Kolo Muani and Ben Davies, who have both recovered from minor knocks and could take to the pitch in the capital. 

Football Odds

For Doncaster, manager Grant McCann may choose to rotate after his side were beaten at home by AFC Wimbledon, with 39-year-old Billy Sharp unlikely to manage two games in the space of a few days. 

Ian Lawlor may play in goal, while Damola Ajayi, Glenn Middleton and Toyosi Olusanya could be thrust into the front three to refresh the attack. Sharp is likely to get some minutes off the bench due to his stellar EFL career, but he won’t complete the full 90. Luke Molyneux has been Doncaster’s standout player for the last 18 months, so he may be left in the XI.

Tottenham are priced at 1/6 to win this home tie, giving them an implied win probability of 86%. A draw which would result in penalties is 7/1 while a shock Donny win can be backed at a massive price of 16/1. 

Rovers have scored 10 and conceded 10 in nine League 1 fixtures so far, so over 2.5 goals is priced at 2/5, BTTS is 11/10 and Richarlison is the favourite to open the scoring at 3/1.

Tottenham are a short price to win this game so there’s no point backing them to do so as a single, so instead I’ve taken a look at a couple of Betfred’s Price Boosts on offer. Let’s start by backing Spurs to win and over 3.5 goals, which has been boosted from 23/20 to 11/8.

Doncaster won five games on the trot in all competitions recently, but have now hit a bump in the road, losing their last two outings. They haven’t kept a clean sheet in their last four, and Spurs are likely to tear them apart even if they make changes. Kolo Muani, Tel, Scarlett and Brennan Johnson will all have points to prove, while the changes at the back could make them susceptible to conceding one at the other end. Spurs should cruise through an entertaining tie.

Lucas Bergvall is in the same boat and the talented youngster could run the show here while Molyneux has had 16 shots in League 1 this season already, and scored 16 goals from 36 shots on target last term. He’s Doncaster’s biggest threat and should be able to get an effort on goal, rounding off our shots acca.
