There are some competitive handicaps on the Flat this Sunday with action on the all-weather from Southwell and a seven-race card from north of the border at Hamilton. It’s also day one of the Listowel Festival in Ireland and there’s some jumps action from Plumpton too.

14:43 Hamilton - Thunderstorm Katie @ 7/2
Jim Goldie has had a fine week at Ayr and one of his representatives is turned out again quickly at Hamilton on Sunday.
Thunderstorm Katie is the horse in question. She was a course winner over five furlongs earlier in the campaign but her two other wins have come at six furlongs and she shaped as though a return to this distance would suit at Ayr on Thursday.
That’s certainly a run worth upgrading. She finished eighth of 18, beaten seven lengths, but was drawn on the wrong side and actually managed to finish second of 10 in her group. Goldie’s horses often run well when turned out again quickly and she may represent the value in the race.
16:07 Southwell - Redorange @ 17/2
There have been few horses suffering as much bad luck this season as Redorange.
He won a good race at Chester's May meeting, then shaped as well as any when third at Royal Ascot in a competitive contest.
He was a narrow fourth in another race at that track before finishing a half-length third at Glorious Goodwood and being run into second in a Listed race in France.
He would surely be favourite here, but for a low-key run at Beverley three weeks ago. He was never in the hunt that day when it paid to be positioned prominently and, while it could be seen as a sign that a busy campaign is taking its toll, he deserves another chance over a speedy five-furlong course that should play to his strengths.
16:43 Hamilton - Danzan @ 7/1
Danzan can be a really hardy performer when he’s left alone on the front end and that’s a scenario that looks a distinct possibility at Hamilton on Sunday with no other obvious pace angles in the race.
The 10-year-old is admittedly not the force of old but showed he’s still very capable in this grade when things fall right when scoring just down the road at Ayr in July. The veteran looks capable of dominating this field from the front.
17:07 Southwell - Tanjen @ 11/2
This three-year-old only started in handicaps this summer, but has progressed quickly from a low starting point. Tanjen has gone up 19lb in the weights in six runs, with his two wins coming on the all-weather.
The latter success came at this track, when he beat a group of fellow three-year-olds by a thumping margin of three and a half lengths.
Still unexposed and facing a fairly modest field for the prize money on offer, Tanjen can continue his excellent first campaign in handicaps by landing a decent pot for Tim Easterby and Sean Kirrane who are both in flying form in recent weeks.

The odds can fluctuate between publishing our pieces and race-time. As a guide, a £0.50 Lucky 15 on today's selections, at the prices, and assuming all four won, would return around £1,762.94 for your total £7.50 stake.
