Horse Racing Tips: Course specialist to bounce back

There’s a mix of Flat racing and jumps in Britain and Ireland this Sunday with four afternoon meetings set to take place. Domestically, there’s turf action on the level at Hamilton as well as a cracking all-weather card at Southwell. There’s also a jumps card from Plumpton and also in Ireland at Listowel.

We have picked out a trio of selections from across the card for our Horse Racing Tips for Sunday, including a course winner who looks capable of another big run.

14:43 Hamilton - Giselles Izzy @ 9/2

Course form is often a key factor when finding winners at Hamilton and Giselles Izzy has a cracking record at the Glasgow venue having finished in the first three in nine of her 12 starts at the track, yielding four course wins in those races.

The mare has become very well treated on her form from last year and confirmed the promise of a placed effort over course and distance when getting her head in front at Carlisle earlier this month.

Despite a 5lb rise in the weights for that effort, she’s still 4lb below her winning course mark from last year and there appears to be a fair bit of ability on paper, so it would be no surprise if she gets a decent pace to aim at in this contest.

The 1m1f handicap at Hamilton has a competitive look to it but there’s one that should be a working man’s price and might be worth considering.

The mare in question is Pisanello who shaped like a return to form was on the cards at Ripon last time out. That’s an effort worth marking up given that she tends to save her best performances for slower ground and this out-and-out hold up horse ought to have the race run to suit given that there are a couple of front-runners in opposition.

She’s been nudged up only 1lb by the assessor and she’s chucked in from a handicapping perspective on her form from last summer.

16:37 Southwell - Winchurch @ 9/1

Winchurch produced a career-best Racing Post Rating when winning on his reappearance at Leicester in June, showing the benefit of being gelded, and he has had excuses for his three defeats since.

He was unfavourably drawn when down the field at York next time and would have found 5f at Goodwood too sharp on his penultimate start, albeit he ran a cracker, staying on well for seventh in a better race than this, while he didn't seem to handle the undulations well at Beverley last time.

His three visits to Southwell have yielded form figures of 125, most recently when shaping better than the distance beaten suggests after missing the break, and he's dropped to the same mark as when beaten just half a length over course and distance in December.

He makes plenty of appeal now, dropping back into Class 5 company for the first time since his last win and looks capable of outrunning his odds.
