Horse Racing Tips: Magic Box full of tricks at Ayr

There is a mixture of flat and jumps racing across the UK and Ireland on Friday with six meetings taking place across the afternoon and into the evening.

First off is Ayr followed by Newbury, with jumps action taking place at Newton Abbot and Downpatrick, before evening all-weather meetings come from Newcastle and Dundalk. Amongst our Friday fancies is one for trainer Karl Burke who is attempting to get back on track after some heavy defeats at a higher level.

13:28 Ayr - Magic Box @ 5/2

MAGIC BOX can continue her progress in handicaps in the opening contest at Ayr on Friday.

William Haggas’ lightly raced filly has improved with the step up in trip since tackling handicaps, making it two from three in impressive fashion last time at Catterick on Soft ground.

She pulled clear with one other rival on that occasion, who has given the form some substance in winning next time.

She has only tasted defeat once in handicaps, when dropped back to 6f on her penultimate start. That was still a respectable effort, finishing second in a useful race for the grade. The fourth and fifth placed runners have won twice since.

The daughter of Showcasing can defy a 7lb rise in the handicap for her latest success and has her optimal conditions over 7f with some juice in the ground.

The biggest danger may come from the Group entered Radiance, who should appreciate returning to 7f.

Another two-year-old Nursery sees RECIPROCATED attempt to get back on track after a couple of disappointing efforts in recent starts.

There are possible excuses for those runs, the first of which came over 7f in Listed company where he appeared not to stay the trip, before struggling in the Group 2 Gimcrack at York.

Some horses fail to give their running at that track, while he may not have been in love with the fast ground conditions.

This contest represents a big drop in class and he may be able to tap back into his early promise for Karl Burke.

He was an impressive winner on debut, getting the better of multiple subsequent winners Silent Applause and Sir Albert. He easily defied a penalty next time out on soft ground at Catterick and has the same conditions at Ayr here.

Kevin Ryan’s VOLTERRA can put up a bold bid to land a first Listed win at Newbury on Friday.

The son of Farhh’s best form has come over 7f, signing off last season with an impressive victory in an Ascot Heritage handicap, with subsequent Sussex Stakes winner Qirat three lengths behind in second.

He advanced his form further when making his seasonal debut in the Group 3 John Of Gaunt Stakes, finishing third. He is ideally suited to some give in the ground and remains relatively lightly raced for his age.

He is entitled to come on for his last run in a Group 3 at Deauville when held in eight, he probably would have finished closer but for being checked in his run and can put up a bold bid down in class over his ideal trip.
