15:35 - Sallaal @ 13/8

Small but select field for a Listed contest, over a mile.

Our selection Sallaal is a three-year-old Frankel colt out of a Selkirk mare so this kind of trip should be right up his street - and has been, successfully so, on his last two outings.

Over slightly further in fact - half a furlong to be precise - first at Hamilton in a good novice stakes race, then 62 days ago at the same track, on handicap debut, taking a Class 2 off a mark of 97 rather comfortably.

In this company today it's all about weight-for-age and potential penalties for any Group successes but he carries 9st 2lb as per the race conditions for a three-year-old colt with no lofty successes to his name (yet), and though not perhaps the best treated I'm getting the feeling his ceiling is something we're yet to see by a long way.

First installment today perhaps - tremendous chance. Roger Varian trains, and Ray Dawson, an agonising second in the Betfred St Leger on Saturday (Rahiebb), has the riding assignment.

16:10 -Absolute Star @ 10/3

Another one mile heat, just for fillies this time (Class 4 handicap).

As it happens we're with the previous combo of Varian and Dawson again, this time on board a four-year-old by Dark Angel out of a Kodiac mare. Absolute Star has been exactly that just once so far in her six-race career, but has been very consistent both for Roger and her previous trainer Archie Watson (horse changed yards in November).

This is her third run after a long break (March-December last year), and the stable has popped her up a notch to Class 4 handicap level, indicating perhaps they think she's now cherry-ripe and could reap the benefit of having those two outings under her belt.

It's not the toughest-looking event and with the yard in decent nick she can certainly go very close.

16:45 - Sir William @ 9/4

The all-conquering stable of William Haggas has 'dropped' to a mere 25% strike-rate, and saddles Sir William here in this 10f Class 4 three-year-old handicap.

Our selection is a Night Of Thunder gelding out of a Golden Horn mare with one win so far from 11 starts. He's rather unluckily up 3lb for his last spin, at Newbury 20 days ago, where he was pipped by a short-head (same trip, grade).

He was favourite that day, ran a career-best, and after a nice little break comes out looking to notch the win. He's run respectably here before on a solitary visit (June) but is in better fettle now and while when last in Esher he came from the back, he's been ridden more prominently, to good effect, the last twice.

Nice race.

17:17 - Huggable @ 4/1

A three-year-old filly by Cityscape, in a 10f fairer sex Class 5 handicap.

Huggable has one win to her name, two runs ago at Epsom, off a mark of 60. Twenty-six days ago she came within half-a-length of defying a 6lb penalty at Newmarket and has been 'rewarded' with a further 3lb hike this afternoon.

Claimer Morgan Cole (5lb) has been on top the last twice and is so again, and while she's in such obvious decent nick it's not hard to see why connections are going to the well once again.

Her last two spins represented a marked step up in terms of performance-levels and one generally needs to keep on the right side of an improving filly. Smashing contest for the lucky last.

This is an example of a Lucky 15. If you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!

The odds can fluctuate between publishing our pieces and race-time. As a guide, a £0.50p win Lucky 15 on today's selections, at the prices, and assuming all four won, would return around £246 for your total £7.50 stake.
