France are currently the second-favourites to win the 2026 World Cup, priced at 6/1 to win back the trophy they lifted in 2018. Only Spain have a better chance than Didier Deschamps' men, and they continue their qualification campaign as they host Iceland at the Parc des Princes on Tuesday (19:45 BST, Amazon Prime).

Below you can find my France vs Iceland predictions featuring team news and betting tips.

Team News

The outstanding attacking quartet made up of Kylian Mbappe, Bradley Barcola, Michael Olise and Desire Doue started for France in the 2-0 win over Ukraine, but Deschamps will have to make some changes. Ousmane Dembele came off the bench but has now been ruled out for around six weeks with a "serious" hamstring injury, while Doue is sidelined for about four weeks, according to his club PSG.

They are furious after saying both injuries were ‘avoidable’ and obviously it comes as a blow to Deschamps. Hugo Ekitike is now a likely candidate to start given his impressive Premier League form, with Mbappe potentially moving to the left wing. Maghnes Akliouche could play as a number 10, with Marcus Thuram also hoping for more minutes in the final third.

France vs Iceland Stats

  • France are the second-favourites to win the World Cup
  • Michael Olise has scored two goals in his last two international games

For Iceland, we can expect manager Arnar Gunnlaugsson, who used to play for Bolton Wanderers, to name an unchanged XI after their 5-0 win over Azerbaijan. Isak Bergmann Johannesson scored twice from the centre of midfield, while their 3-4-3 system caused plenty of issues for the opposition.

Andri Gudjohnsen will be disappointed to have missed out on a goal, but he was a threat, with Albert Gudmundsson getting on the scoresheet from the left wing. Victor Palsson and young midfielder Kristian Hlynsson also found the net, with Hlynsson attempting to break into the XI having started on the bench.

France vs Iceland Odds

France are priced as the 1/11 favourites to win this game, with Iceland the rank outsiders at 25/1. That means the home side have an implied win probability of 92%, which gives you some idea of how fancied they are heading into this one.

A draw is 9/1, over 2.5 goals is 1/3 and BTTS is 6/4. In terms of first goalscorers, Kylian Mbappe unsurprisingly leads the way at 11/5.

Price Boost - France to win both halves, France 8+ corners and Iceland 30+ booking points @ 9/1

France got their qualification group off to a winning start with a 2-0 away win against Ukraine, and despite the absence of Doue and Dembele, they should have more than enough quality to get past Iceland. I’m also expecting them to dominate this game, as they did in their last qualifier, and although Iceland got a big win over Azerbaijan last time out, France are clearly a step up in terms of difficulty.

Given the odds on offer, I’ve explored two Price Boosts for this match, with the first a big price at 9/1. We need France to win both halves, which I can see them doing in front of their own fans, while we also need Deschamps’ men to have eight or more corners. They had four against Ukraine last time out but this should be a far more dominant display against weaker opposition, so I can see them racking up the corners.

We also need Iceland to get 30+ booking points, with 25 points awarded for a red card and 10 for a yellow. They unsurprisingly only got a single yellow in their recent 5-0 win, but I’d expect them to commit a higher number of fouls given they are likely to be without the ball for large spells. At 9/1, it’s worth a small punt.

Price Boost - Michael Olise to score first @ 6/1

I love this Price Boost from Betfred. Olise has rapidly developed into one of the world’s finest wingers, and is now showing his class at Bayern Munich, scoring seven goals in nine games already this term. The reason I’m particularly hot on this selection is because Dembele and Doue have been ruled out injured, guaranteeing Olise’s place in the starting XI.

It should also mean he is handed more responsibility in the final third, along with Mbappe. However, with Mbappe a much shorter price and with the possibility that he moves out to the wing, I think Olise offers much better value. He scored first against Ukraine, plus he also scored in the Nations League third-place play-off against Germany to make it two goals in two games for his country. I think 6/1 for him to score first against Iceland is brilliant value.
