Portugal are fresh from a 5-0 win in Armenia while Hungary drew 2-2 in Ireland ahead of this clash on Tuesday, kick-off time 19:45 and live on Prime Video.

Jamie Pacheco returned a respectable profit on Portugal’s game last time out and has found a way to back them at odds-against again, as well as identifying two big-priced Portugal goalscorers with decent chances. Hungary

Hungary will have been disappointed to exit the Euros last summer at the Group Stage but theirs wasn't an easy group with Germany and an ever-competitive Switzerland both beating them in their first two matches before a late, late goal against Scotland allowed them to salvage some pride in a meaningless third match.

They're currently 38th in the FIFA Rankings but they're not in particularly good form, losing twice to Turkey in a Nations League Play-off, and then in a friendly to Sweden, before beating Azerbaijan 2-1, also in a friendly.

On Saturday, they managed a 2-2 draw in Ireland. It was a strange match with Hungary going 2-0 up, having a man sent off early in the second half and Ireland clawing back to draw 2-2 in injury time, a match where Ireland were very much the better team.

Their big star is Dominik Szoboszlai of Liverpool, who tends to play a bit deeper for country than he does for club.

Portugal

Job done in Armenia, Portugal putting in a dominant performance to win 5-0. We had them to beat a two-goal handicap, and they did so with plenty to spare, ensuring a modest but important profit on the day for us.

Ronaldo scored two, one of them a brilliant long-range strike while João Félix was an unexpected starter and grabbed a brace of his own, with full-back João Cancelo getting the other.

Our man Pedro Neto, a 7/4 shot to score, was hooked at half-time, not giving us a good run for our money and this after providing a cross so perfect for Ronaldo's first that I think some of the readers of this preview would have scored from it.

After about five or six years of Ronaldo playing virtually every minute for Portugal despite being in the twilight of his career, a compromise seems to have finally been reached where he gets to start almost every game but gets subbed after 60-odd minutes…without any histrionics from international football's top scorer in history. The same might happen here again.

Hungary deserve respect so Martinez will pick his best side here, meaning it may be pretty similar to what we saw on Saturday.

Hungary are 24/5, implied probability of 17.2% with Portugal 1/2 (66%) and the draw 10/3, or 23/1%. Fair prices all of them but we'll say what we said last time ahead of the Armenia match: an upset is unlikely, but we don't want to be backing Portugal at those odds, either.

Since 2017, they've played each other three times, with Portugal winning the lot- 3-0, 1-0 and 3-0 - all without conceding...

Portugal to win to nil

Last time out we found a way to side with Portugal at odds-against by going with them on the handicap and there's a way to do that again for this one.

Ay 6/4 you can back Portugal to win to nil and it's a bet that makes sense. For starters, that's how the last three matches between them went. They're also much the stronger side and have plenty of options off the bench, who can make a big impact, if necessary, which Hungary don't.

Portugal have an excellent keeper in Diogo Costa, who one of these days will move from Porto to a Champions League-contending team, and the rest of the defence is solid enough, all of them playing at big clubs.

This could easily be 1-0 or 2-0 to Ronaldo and his mates, both very fairly priced at 13/2, but you never know with this Portugal side and its attacking threat, who can rack up goals on their day. So I think I'll keep things simple here, rather than going for a couple of correct score options.

Anytime Goalscorers

Portugal play four at the back rather than wing-backs like so many sides these days but that doesn't stop their two full-back from galloping forward at every opportunity.

The result was that João Cancelo (7/1 to score anytime) provided a superb cross for Felix's opener and then scored a goal himself from a position where you'd expect the striker to be in the box, not the right-back!

Mendes (10/1) should have done better with another excellent cross, where any sort of touch from the PSG man would have led to a goal. A repeat of their attacking exploits could see them get at least one big chance between them here. If so, let's hope they take it.
