Blackburn vs Norwich Prediction: Sargent to continue flying form

Blackburn Rovers secured an impressive 3-0 win away at Hull City last weekend to get their Championship season up and running, and they will hope to get a win in front of their own fans as they host Norwich City on Saturday (15:00).

The Canaries have been hit and miss so far, with one win and two defeats to their name, as Liam Manning tries to get to grips with the job at Carrow Road. Below you can find my Blackburn vs Norwich predictions featuring team news and more. 

Team News

Valerien Ismael is expected to name an unchanged XI after that 3-0 win, with Todd Cantwell flourishing as the new captain in the number 10 role. He found the net at Hull, along with Yuki Ohashi and Ryan Hedges, with that trio likely to be joined by Augustus Kargbo in the final third again. 

Balazs Toth kept a clean sheet in goal, behind a back four of Ryan Alebiosu, Dom Hyam, Sean McLoughlin and Yuri Ribeiro. The departure of Lewis Travis to Derby is an obvious loss, but Sidnei Tavares and Sondre Tronstad looked good as the midfield partnership at the MKM. Dion De Neve and Makhtar Gueye could offer options off the bench.

The big transfer news coming out of Norwich is the fact that Marcelino Nunez looks set to join fierce rivals Ipswich Town in a shock transfer. Manning saw his side get hammered by Southampton in the Carabao Cup in midweek, so expect him to revert to a more familiar XI in this one. 

He will be without Jacob Wright who was shown a straight red card in the defeat to Middlesbrough, so Kenny McLean could partner Mirko Topic in the middle. Josh Sargent will lead the line once again, with Ante Crnac and Emiliano Marcondes likely to support him in the final third.

Blackburn vs Norwich Odds

Blackburn have been priced as the 11/8 favourites to win this fixture, giving them an implied win probability of 11/8. Norwich are priced at 2/1 to secure an away win, while a draw is 23/10 on Betfred. 

Both teams to score is 8/11, over 2.5 goals is 10/11 and Sargent is the favourite to score first at 11/2.

I think this game will be full of goals based on what we have seen so far. Norwich have seen three 2-1 scorelines in the league this season, two home defeats and one away win and that just sums them up right now. They are leaky at the back, with the switch to a 3-4-2-1 taking some getting used to, while the new goalkeeper Vladan Kovacevic is getting used to English football.

Harry Darling and Jakov Medic are also new arrivals so they will take time to gel, while Blackburn have scored in three of their four games in all competitions this term. Cantwell has stepped up this season with two goals while Ohashi is a good finisher up top. I think with the strength of both attacks and slightly dodgy defences, we should see goals at both ends at Ewood Park.

The best striker in the Championship… remains in the Championship. Sargent has been linked with a move away all summer but for now remains in Norwich yellow, and what a boost that is for Manning. 

Sargent has already scored four goals in as many games in all competitions this season and his finishing is just on another level. You would back him to win the Golden Boot if he can avoid injury this season, which has always been an issue for the American. It feels as though it's a big year for the USA striker ahead of a home World Cup, and I’m backing him to add to his tally in this away game.
