Kotoni staggs brisbane broncos 2023

There has never been a bigger clash between the Brisbane Broncos and the Dolphins than the one coming up at Suncorp Stadium on Saturday (17:30 local, 08:30 BST).

The Broncos go into the game sitting in sixth spot, but defeat would see the Dolphins leapfrog them and leave injured-ravaged Brisbane hanging on their nerve-ends heading into the death throes of the season. My Broncos vs Dolphins predictions follow with extensive team news and Betfred’s match odds.

Broncos vs Dolphins Odds

The bookies are backing the senior outfit to get the job done in this one, with the Broncos 8/11 for the win in normal time.

The three-year-old Dolphins are 6/5, with the draw an 18/1 chance.

Betfred aren’t expecting a one-sided game though, with the standard two-way handicap offering the Dolphins just a 2.5-point start. The Fins are 10/11 against that backdrop, with Brisbane 5/6.

Team News

The losses of Adam Reynolds, Selwyn Cobbo and Ezra Mam are the big news for the Broncos, with Michael Maguire having to deal with replacing his complete half-back department after both Reynolds and Mam went down with hamstring injuries within the space of two seconds in the 22-2 loss to the Storm last week.

Ben Hunt and Billy Walters are the men chosen to replace the regular six and seven, with Cory Paix covering the hooker spot to allow for Hunt’s switch.

Tyson Smoothy comes up to the bench, while it’s Josiah Karapani who gets the call to take Cobbo’s spot on the wing.

The Dolphins are without Francis Molo due to suspension, with Kenny Bromwich coming into the 17 and Mark Nicholls promoted into the starting group at prop.

Trai Fuller is set to start at full-back, with Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow switched to the centres alongside Jake Averillo.

Rugby League Odds

Broncos by 1-5 @ 6/1

There’s going to be very little in this one. The Broncos are a bit bent out of shape following the losses of Reynolds and Mam in particular. The Dolphins are still trying to develop that consistency alongside their sensational attacking ability.

Last week’s 64-12 hammering at Suncorp by the Roosters jolted the nation but in truth it wasn’t a massive surprise considering this was the sixth time in 2025 that Kristian Woolf’s side have shipped 26 or more.

So long as the Broncos can get ahead, I think they will have their local rivals right where they want them. They held on for long spells last week against the Storm despite their injury woes. Their only problem was a lack of creativity when it counted.

But having had a week to set things straight on the training field, I’m backing Maguire to get the right tune out of his players in an attacking sense against an inconsistent defensive line.

There won’t be a lot in it, so I’m willing to go for the value bet in taking the Broncos to edge it by a single score at 6/1 with its implied probability of 14.3%.

Broncos-Broncos @ 13/10

As stated, it would appear that half the battle for the Broncos will be in getting ahead early. That should open the game up for them with their rejigged half-back pairing having the chance to create with their shoulders dropped and a real belief about their ability to open up the Dolphins.

If they get ahead, they can stay ahead. So I’m happy to tip this double result in favour of the home side at 13/10 and its implied probability of 43.5%.
