Newcastle Premier League Odds: Magpies could be weaker than last season

When Newcastle United won the Carabao Cup and secured their return to the Uefa Champions League last season, you'd have thought that they would be in for a summer of strengthening. But so far that has not been the case for the Magpies. One notable attacking addition has been made in Anthony Elanga but Newcastle have missed out on a lot of their priority targets.
And to make things worse, star striker Alexander Isak is trying to force a move to Liverpool. Right now it looks like a troublesome season could await Newcastle. Below you will find my predictions for their upcoming season using Betfred's Newcastle Premier League Odds.

Prediction: 7th
Eddie Howe has done a fantastic job at St. James' Park over the past four years and he has just delivered Newcastle their first trophy in over 70 years, while getting them back into Europe's most glamorous competition.
The head coach needs support from the club hierarchy to help keep the team on an upward trajectory. Elanga is a positive addition based on the season he just had at Nottingham Forest, but they are going to need more options in the final third, notably up front, with just Isak and Will Osula the current options following Callum Wilson's departure.
Following Paul Mitchell's exit as sporting director, a key role behind the scenes has become vacant, although former Sunderland manager Jack Ross has been appointed head of strategy in recent weeks. It's all a bit chaotic from the outside looking in and it has significantly weakened Newcastle's position this summer.
They have missed out on several of their transfer targets in Hugo Ekitike, Benjamin Sesko and Joao Pedro, who have joined Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea respectively.
It's a concerning time to be a Newcastle fan and the club needs to resolve the Isak situation quickly so that they can try and have a strong end to the transfer window.

Transfer Business:
In: Anthony Elanga (£55m, Nottingham Forest), Aaron Ramsdale (loan, Southampton) and Antonito Cordero (free, Malaga).
Out: Lloyd Kelly (£20m, Juventus), Sean Longstaff (£12m, Leeds United), Callum Wilson (free, West Ham United), Antonito Cordero (loan, KVC Westerlo), Joe White (loan, Leyton Orient), Jamal Lewis and Isaac Hayden (both released).
As you can see, Newcastle have had far more outgoings this summer than incomings, and they are going to need quite a few arrivals to get them in a good position for both their domestic and European campaigns.
Elanga is an impressive arrival, having starred for Forest last season, and he is a player who can operate on both flanks.
Isak appears to have severed all ties with the club's staff, players and fans with his childish actions to force a move to Liverpool, so Newcastle should tell the league champions their price and agree a deal as I think his reputation is unsalvageable at this stage.
They should expect a British record fee for the Sweden international but that will need to be reinvested wisely. They are reportedly closing in on a deal for AC Milan defender Malick Thiaw for around £40m, which doesn't make much sense when they are in desperate need of bolstering their forward line.
Thiaw would be a good addition but is not a position the Magpies actively need to improve right now.
Key Player: Bruno Guimaraes
It was a toss up between Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes for this label but I have gone for the latter, who has already established himself as a club legend on Tyneside.
The Brazilian has been a leader for the Magpies and his aggression and tenacious attitude on the pitch is a reflection of what the supporters in the stands like to see. The midfielder is brilliant at winning the ball back but he is equally as good with the ball, helping set the attacking stars away.
I liked his post-match interview at Wembley as Newcastle beat Liverpool to win the Carabao Cup, it made me truly understand why he is adored by the Toon Army. Guimaraes has been linked with a transfer in the past few years but nothing has materialised, mainly because it looks like he is loving his football at St. James' Park.
He is showing qualities that are lacking from Isak, and he is a shining example in the Newcastle team. He will be key to their success this term.

Prediction: 7th
Juggling the Premier League and the Champions League might be quite tough for Newcastle given how their squad looks at the moment. If Isak goes, his goal contributions and his general play in attack will be very difficult to replace.
The Magpies are hoping to land the services of Yoane Wissa from Brentford. He is a proven forward at this level but he is no Isak. The Magpies would need another option to play up front as well as Wissa for this campaign, something which they will look to do if Isak moves on.
Newcastle are well-stacked in midfield and defence, but the current frailties shown in their offensive ranks makes it hard for me to see them maintaining their place in the top four in 2025/26.
And considering the fact that Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur have been strengthening well this summer, a top six push looks like it may be difficult for Howe's men, too.
