After the Championship season began with a bang last weekend, the Carabao Cup swings into action on Tuesday night with the first round.

We’ve got a full stack of fixtures to choose from, and I’ve backed a team I’m really strong on this season to bag another win. Read on for Tuesday’s Football Bet of the Day.

Football Bet of the Day - Tuesday, August 12

  • Stockport to win and BTTS vs Crewe Alexandra @ 11/5

Stockport County are my pick to get promoted from a strong League 1 this term, with Dave Challinor at the helm. He’s a special manager in my opinion and he’s building something remarkable, having taken them up from the National League to the third tier.

They missed out on penalties in the play-offs in last season, but the upwards trajectory of this club is difficult to ignore. The Hatters have made a perfect start to the league campaign with two wins from two against fellow promotion-chasers Bolton Wanderers and Wycombe Wanderers.

I had them finishing second in my League 1 1-24s, and I see no reason why they can’t achieve that this term. They could even win the title. On Tuesday night, this fantastic squad for the level face another challenge in the Carabao Cup. Crewe Alexandra come to Edgeley Park (19:45, Sky Sports+), looking to continue their winning streak, as the Alex currently sit top of League 2 with two wins from two.

Stockport vs Crewe Odds

Lee Bell has got off to a strong start in 2025/26, but ultimately it will be a big ask for this Crewe Alex squad, reliant on their famous academy once again, to challenge for promotion. They are a league below Stockport, and the gulf between the two teams should become apparent on Tuesday night.

I will back Stockport to get the job done on home soil, even though we are expecting multiple changes from both manager. The Hatters had a bench that featured the likes of Malik Mothersille, Lewis Fiorini, Ben Hinchcliffe, Danny Andrew and Nathan Lowe in the win over Wycombe, with Lowe likely to get some minutes in this cup tie.

Today's Football Fixtures

He was a sensation for Walsall in League 2 last term and I’d expect him to bag double figures for Stockport in the league, while Challinor will want to give some of those fringe players game time.

Given we’ve seen Crewe score five times in their two matches so far, I think we can back them to find the net to boost our odds, even in defeat. Stockport are likely to rotate at the back and conceded at Wycombe this weekend, so I’m happy to plump for a home win and BTTS for our Football Bet of the Day.
