Lucky 15 Tips: Four to follow on Monday

With five meetings taking place across Britain and Ireland on Monday, there’s something to cater for everyone’s tastes. The Galway Festival gets underway and their seven-race card is the highlight of the day. Yarmouth and Ayr take place in the afternoon while the evening entertainment is provided by Galway, Windsor and Southwell.

We've picked out four strong fancies to follow across the day for our Lucky 15 tips and amongst them is a Sir Mark Prescott runner at Yarmouth who is a lightly raced and progressive handicapper. She got off the mark when last seen and could be worth keeping on side now up in trip.

15:00 Ayr - Boy Douglas @ 9/2

Michael Dods has had four winners at Ayr so far this year and BOY DOUGLAS provided one of those victories. He could be set to go in again, as we’re expecting a big run from the five-year-old.

The son of New Bay has three career wins to his name, all of which have come at Ayr. He has only been beaten once at the track, giving him a 75 per cent strike-rate there. That statistic certainly bodes well and he should run his race once again.

Winning at Ayr over a mile when last seen, that was a very comfortable win and a 5lb penalty wouldn’t have made much difference that day.

15:15 Yarmouth - String Of Pearls @ 1/1

Many of Sir Mark Prescott’s horses fail to fire in maiden and novice company but take their form to a new level once they switch to handicaps. STRING OF PEARLS fits this profile perfectly and she managed to get off the mark last time out.

She looked in need of the run when fifth on seasonal and handicap debut at Newmarket in May but she clearly improved significantly for it, as the three-year-old got off the mark at Goodwood after that. Stepping up to 1m4f helped and the extra two furlongs now should be fine.

The handicapper hasn’t overreacted, only putting her up 4lb for that effort, and it would be a surprise if there weren't loads more to come from this filly.

17:10 Galway - Davy Crockett @ 8/15

Willie Mullins has an abundance of elite level talent at his disposal and he sends DAVY CROCKETT to Galway for his hurdling debut. This horse has a significant amount of potential and it’ll be interesting to see how far he can go.

Possessing an impeccable pedigree, he’s out of Champion Hurdle-winning mare Annie Power and by the excellent Camelot. His half-brother Mystical Power was a very talented novice hurdler and Davy Crockett should follow suit.

He made a very good impression when winning a Punchestown bumper very easily last month and is very much the one to beat on that evidence.

19:50 Galway - Starford @ 7/2

Joseph O’Brien has been in very good form recently and runs the progressive handicapper STARFORD in Monday’s penultimate race at Galway.

Only making his debut in April, he showed very little in three starts in maiden company but it was a very different story when switched to handicaps at Gowran on his penultimate start. He kept on well to get off the mark, despite racing a little keenly in the early stages.

Further progress was shown at Roscommon next time and he absolutely bolted up. The handicapper has put him up 13lb since, which means more will be needed, but the evidence suggests this is a horse on the up.

The odds can fluctuate between publishing our pieces and race-time. As a guide, a £0.50p win Lucky 15 on today's selections, at the prices, and assuming all four won, would return around £135.35 for your total £7.50 stake.
