Manchester United vs West Ham Prediction: Mbeumo to catch fire

Manchester United are in action in the wee hours of Sunday morning (00:00 BST, Sky Sports Premier League), as the Red Devils gear up for their first full season under Ruben Amorim. Graham Potter’s West Ham United are their next pre-season opponents, and they will face off at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

Team News
Obviously all eyes will be on Manchester United’s new-look front line, which should feature both Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha. They’ve spent big on that pair from Brentford and Wolves respectively, and will hope that they can reinvigorate their attack.
Who starts as the final piece of that attack could be key, with Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund currently the first-choice strikers at Old Trafford. Chido Obi is a young option while Marcus Rashford has gone out of the door, to Barcelona.
Harry Maguire could be involved having travelled to the USA after a personal issue, while 18-year-old Diego Leon will hope to get more minutes having started against Leeds.
Potter has a few absentees, with Crysencio Summerville stepping up his recovery from a serious hamstring injury, but not yet fit to play. George Earthy has picked up a serious ankle issue in training while Edson Alvarez is returning from his extended time off having led Mexico to Gold Cup glory.
Callum Wilson continues to be linked with a move to the London Stadium but for now Niclas Fullkrug or youngster Callum Marshall could start up front.
Manchester United vs West Ham Odds
Manchester United have been priced up as the 9/10 favourites here, giving them an implied win probability of 52%, according to the numbers. West Ham are 13/5 while a draw can be backed at 12/5.
Over 2.5 goals is 8/11 for this friendly while BTTS is 4/6. Cunha is the favourite to open the scoring for his new club at 5/1.
Manchester United to win with -1 handicap @ 5/2
Backing Man Utd to win a game of football with a handicap added as well? Have I lost my mind? Well maybe. But also, maybe not. United have to have a positive start to the new campaign and with some decent summer spending I am expecting Amorim to get some improvement out of his side.
We know he is going to play that 3-4-3 formation he stuck to rigidly last term and it feels like Mbeumo and Cunha have been signed with that in mind. The striker position is still a bit of a concern as Hojlund just isn’t that guy - but they should be able to beat a West Ham outfit that I don’t fancy at all under Potter. There seems to be a grey cloud looming over the club right now and although they’ve got some decent squad players, I believe they could be in for a long tough season.

Price Boost - Bryan Mbeumo to score @ 5/2
Betfred have come up with a Price Boost for us for this game and it’s one I’m more than happy to get on board with. Mbeumo is a quality forward and although I believe United have overspent to secure his signature, he should provide them with plenty of goals this term.
He scored 20 goals in 38 Premier League matches for Brentford last season and should be able to get close to that tally again with his new club. The fact we are getting 5/2 on him to score anytime, even in a pre-season friendly, is brilliant value. Is he United’s saviour?
